Can anyone from the uk confirm how the IVA guys deal with the following:
I believe to get a new registration and avoid the dreaded Q-plate, all the components need to be new, first off new G50 gearboxes don't exist so there's a second hand part right away, then, in my case I got my chasis from someone who had started an Ultima but decided it wasn't for him after riveting his first couple of panels on so I don't have a receipt from the factory for it although it is in theory a new part. Everything else is new, so where do I stand and what experiences have others had?

a vehicle made up of mainly second hand parts from more than one original vehicle usually. Well, thats a very basic understanding of a Q plate.

Thanks, I thought it had something to do with the year of registration

You're allowed a secondhand part providing it has been remanufactured to as new (stated on the invoice wink), people have the gearbox or engine as this, so if you are buying a crate engine the gearbox would qualify as a recon unit.
You need to speak to the factory, they will give you the run down on paperwork needed to be submitted to the DVLA.
IVA is make sure you are safe, the only paperwork (apart from build photos) they want to see is the engine paperwork so they can work out what emissions to sting you for.
I stand to be corrected as I did the SVA 4 years ago.

I spoke to Richard on Sunday about a new build next year i was thinking of doing with a secondhand diesel engine..but I did not want a Q plate for insurance reasons(you cant get fully comp)

He said I either need a new engine OR a new gearbox/recon

My idea was to buy a crashed VW Tourag and break it but after hearing his advise I thought a new or recon engine but use secondhand bits off the breaker car to get it running as it would have everything I need to run the engine and electronics..

A new G50/52 gearbox by the way was 8k in 2001 as my GTR had one!!!
