apart from the AMAZING engine that I know about and love, I know nothing about these cars

looking on autotrader there seems to be ST1 ST2 ST3 that appear to be much the same (to the untrained eye)
what is difference?
what is better?
how to tell one from another?

thanks all smile

EDIT..no I don't want a bright orange one wink

No first hand experiance. Although I hear they are suprisingly poor on fuel. IMO they looked great... until the RS came out.

My Mum got hers in May 2010.

An ST3 over a 2 had tinted windows, climate control and leather seats (I think).

I can't remember what the ST2 had over a 1, in fact I think you could only get an ST2 or 3 at that point.

Are you looking at facelift cars?

No prob, I've driven it loads so can offer lots of comments regarding driving it.

No real problems with it and it did 18k in the first 12 months.

I would guess that the ST1 was killed off at facelift.

Get it "mountuned" evil

Heavy on fuel, and Band K road tax.

Have you considered a Megane 225 or Golf GTI?

Good find!

I don't know what you currently have but the Xenons in the ST are brilliant.

The ST1, ST2, ST3 denotes spec.

This roughly translate as:

ST1 - Basic spec. Air Con, Leccy windows, etc
ST2 - As above plus Quickclear screen, traction control, xenons
ST3 - As above plus plus leather (note: only 2 rear seats) better stereo.

The ST3 is the top spec model. It comes with leather seats and only 2 rear seats (slightly sunk in if I remember rightly from my test drive).

It does come with big spec and isn't hugely more expensive than the ST2 in my browsing experience.

Lovely cars, the one I drove was a 2010 Managers Special with about 300 miles on it (it was about 2 weeks old) and it was bloody brilliant. I would have one tomorrow if I could afford 3 cars (not selling the Mk1 Golf an really need something to cart the dog around in, I couldn't do that to a Golf or an ST!)

For give my ignorance, but what is so amazing about this engine? Having driven a couple I know it sounds nice, but it doesn't produce much power or torque for a 2.5 five cylinder turbo and it's very thirsty.

Good car no doubt and would make for an interesting daily hack. But if you're looking for a bit of fun, is a heavy, not hugely quick, fwd hatch really the way to go?

ST3 has Bi-Xenons for "blinding cabbies", too. That alone is worth the upgrade.

Focus ST not really my thing. Too big and heavy feeling but it does have an awesome engine and gearbox. Why? Yes there is the noise of course but it is also very tractable and flexible, it will take off in any gear. I drive an Impreza WRX which I love but unless you're in the right gear and have at least 2k dialled in, it can feel rather sluggish. I would love that engine in my car's chassis!
