Well...what can I say!
After an 18hour shift keeping the peace, I started my Noble in the station car park and decided to go for a drive before I went home. 50mph on a dual carriageway and then all power is cut. I coast to a layby (using the starter motor to keep momentum up), called the RAC and they came out, couldn't identify the fault then set up towing me to a garage.
A rigid tow was clamped to my front towing eye and off we went. As we approached some traffic lights, the RAC van braked as the lights turned red (I heard a "THUNK" from the front), then the lights changed whilst we were still braking and as the van accelarated the tow eye snapped and I was once again stranded.
Damage caused from the rigid tow bar was a smashed PAS cooler, damaged a/c rad, mashed grill and broken towing eye (£1000 damage, discussion in place with RAC on who is to blame). To cap it all off, my car will turn over, but has no spark, various mechanics and auto electrical bods can't identify the fault and the guess is a failed ECU (MBE) oh... And I just had it re mapped by Trevor (who did a great job) after spending out on 2 refurbed turbos with new actuators. All relays have been checked, all fuses checked and the crank and cam sensor. all in order.
Any ideas?? Really not feeling very pro Noble at the moment!

It's known the towing eyes on nobles can't take much weight and I think they were only designed to pull cars out of gravel on trackdays, not sure if that's mentioned in the manual though.
Did you check the coils? They seem to have been a problem for a few people and me in the past with similar symptoms.
Hope RAC cover the damage they caused!

Just to let u no. I believe the rac are at fault low production cars will not be on there system. They need to have guidelines for all cars that they tow in this way. They can only tow it to safety not to a garage. Ie if ur in the middle of the road. Your car should have been put on a flatbed.

I've had them out three times in the last 9 weeks, The guy who turns up in the Orange van (Patol man) needs to ring in the flatbed for a low car - I think you will stuggle to get the flatbed sent directly out to you - you wait twice as long to be recovered but it saves the pain.swankBaton said:

yes this is very true they have to send the man in the van first but due to protocol they should not be towing your car they should send for the flat bed. when you speak to them ask them what there system says about towing your particular car and ask for a copy of there protocol for a noble. just trying to help. i had a similar thing with a porsche i had wear they damage my front bumber by towing and they ended up paying to have it re sprayed due to the fact they should have flatbedded it.I've never had my Nob pulled by the RAC ( oo-er ) but my last couple of Esprits have needed RAC recovery ( 4 or 5 times as I recall ). They have always sent the patrol first, taken one look at it and said "We'll get that on a flat back". Okay, it's then a long wait ( over an hour or 2 as I recall ) but they never suggested towing it.
When the dealer has collected it from my house ( when it's died ) they always winch it backwards on to their trailer. It's never been down forwards.
I think you certainly need to push it with the AA, I dont think they should have attempted to tow it.

With regards to the towing incident, the fault unfortunately is with the car and not the recovery team, therefore your best bet is going after the factory and it is probably a case that would stand up in court.
The consumer right acts is still valid way past its warranty in that the product has to be fit for purpose and you have a very good arguement that the towing eye is definately not fit for purpose, what good is a towing eye if you can not use it for towing
That said, (slap on wrist),you should have known better than to let them tow the car on the eye.
