5.0 - are they more fragile?

Hello all,

I was looking around a dealers yesteday at a couple of 4.0 Chimaera's and mentioned that what I was really looking for was a 5.0 or perhaps a 4.5. He declared (in lofty tones) that whilst they were good cars he would never have one as they are a lot more fragile, especilly the 5.0's

Any truth in this?

That is standard dealer speak for 'I don't have the car you want but maybe I can pursuade you to take one of these cars instead'. The 5 liter engines are generally much more desirable than the 4 liter engines.

Non are fragile, the 500 engine probably won't cover the mileage of a standard Rover unit (as in 4.0L) without rebuild , but they can all reach over 100k. the 500 will be far more expensive to repair if anything does go wrong, a small price to pay for all that grunt

I would totally agree with the 'I have no 500's cos they are poo, but look at my lovely 400's' yarn. Load of rubbish! There are loads of Griff's around as well as the Chim running the 500 engine with few mechanical problems. The 500 engine is torque-tastic and is awesome.

Go for it!

You can make the 500 quite obscene too, if you tune it up a bit (Tornado chip, ACT bits, etc).

Fragile my Cock .
Have done over 40 (hard) Track Days in mine plus fast road use with no problems.
Obviously tyres,brakes,services etc get done more often but no other isssue's.

i went to trade mine yesterday a 1998 5 ltr mint condition the dealer said 500's dont sell as well as 4 ltrs and could only offer me 12,995 in part x for a tuscan, that,s main dealers for you, oh bye the way his car,s advitised as in mint condition he must have s..t in his eyes {north london main dealer}

Funny you should say that, I have had similar figures from some main dealers. The best offers I have had have been from H.L Gorners in Warrington against the Nebula Black Tuscan S they have...ask for Mike Clarke (sales manager), top man and straight talking. The other dealer is Chris Neils in Cheshire against the black Noble 3R demo thay have. Though I appreciate its a long drag for you to come up here to God's country!!!
