I have a pretty mint 2006 Focus ST2 with bluefin and eibachs, low miles. It's a good car but I fancy a change.
I have been offered a well modified Focus RS mk1 with 300+BHP - all mods etc look to be the right ones and the history is traceable. It's one of the later ones so I believe these are the ones to have.

Plus side, to me, for the Focus RS are:
- Rarity value, should retain it's value (maybe...)
- Quicker than my ST

Downside for the RS:
- Not as well specced
- Not as comfy as I do a lot of m/way miles
- Older and potentially higher maintenance/running costs with the mods

Why am I getting rid of the ST, I hear you ask... Simply, I fancy a change, and I have had it for over a year which is along time for me. I ideally want an Audi S4, but unless or until I sell my car for a decent price, I may have to just get a swap.

Is that an RS 500 you're talking about? I saw one for the first time the other day looked sweet. (I dont know much about them)!
Maybe you could loot one when the riots are on? smile

No. Most of your miles are motorway where that extra 30bhp (?) of the RS won't matter st.

No he is talking about a Mk1 Focus RS. Not a Mk2 Focus RS500.

OP - I would say go for it. If you keep cars for such a short period of time anyway, the maintenance costs shouldn't be an issue.

1 Year of fun filled motoring in a 300bhp Focus RS sounds like a winner to me! Even if you wanted to keep it longer, normal servicing and normal maintenance will see it cost no more than any other car you will no doubt fancy... especially an S4???

yes it's a mk1, 2003 Focus RS I have been offered.
Any original Focus RS owners here - what are they like to live with?

Seems like very much a sideways step to me.

If a year is a long time for you to keep a car, then may I suggest that you actually keep buying the wrong cars.

Applying this logic would mean no a MK1 RS is not a good idea.

How about something more like a Monaro?

Just go and take MkI for a drive and see what you think. They have a pretty uncompromising reputation so whether you like how they drive is going to be quite personal.
