Is there a Track day where you hire a car and get tuition ??
Discussion
My GF wants to do a "trackday" (I know that it isn't really a trackday) where she can get some tuition and it is not in her car, basically like "A car in a reasonably priced car" but not a star
. It doesn't matter what type of car, she just wants to get taught how to drive fast and get a bit of track time.
Any ideas of anyone offering this please ?.
Thanks,
Mike.

Speak to Ben Demetriou. He's a Porsche club champion and provided me with racing tuition this season and last season. He's fantastic, really puts you at ease. He also has cars for hire for track days so he can put a full package together for you of a track day, car and tuition anywhere in the country.
Tell him Stuart with the MR2 sent you.

There are definitely people out there doing this. I shared a garage (can't remember which trackday) with a guy who owned a track preped porsche who had a guy there for tuition. It was all going well, the customer was having a great time. Unfortunately he stacked it in the afternoon. Car looked pretty bent, owner gutted, customer also gutted. Not sure what the guy's name was now.
Booktrack do caterham hire - they have 10 cars and get universally good feedback.
Johnny leroux (sp) posts on here and runs it....
It's a fair chunk of money, but you will get a real track experience.

I had a CAT Training at Millbrooke proving ground and can say it is great for a novice. It's nothing like a trackday - not busy, not loud and no hardcore trackdayers to intimidate you. It's very serene with plenty of time to talk over the training plus the circuits were empty, except the odd production car undergoing some monotonous 30mph testing.

Mike Cooper (http://www.drivertuition.com/) offers this sort of instruction/car hire package. As to cars, he currently has a Fiat Panda 100hp (which has a surprisingly informative chassis for a "reasonably priced car" to learn the basics) or a MR2 track-car with sticky tyres to progress to. I've had instruction both on the road (in the Panda where all the basics can be sorted out without paying for track time) and then on the track with him, he is an excellent teacher. Martin

If you want something as a relatively gentle introduction to track, then perhaps also check out Caterham Drive Experience.
Their experience packages are aimed more at those out for a bit of fun than the harder trackday hire market (and you have an instructor sat with you the whole time you're out).
The main downside though is that they often run at the same time as full blown track days so your GF might well find herself alongside more exotic metal and more experienced drivers right from the start.

+ 1 for Colin and Jo at CAT Driver Training.
We do a one hour training session alongside one of our race instructors for £250: http://www.clubmsv.com/car-home/one-hour-driver-tr...
Track club can hire you anything from a clio, through to a JP1 and most things inbetween.
Instruction can be included and you can pretty much choose whichever track you want to try.

Speak to either Stephen or Simon.
Would also highly recommend Bookatrack, good value and the caterhams are fantastic.
