Where are all the Bargains?
Discussion
With the age of the internet and the ease of which you can search the whole country, is it ever possible to find a real car bargain... i'm talking something rare yet undervalued?
it seems to me that the only way you'll get a "barn find" bargain is if it's your barn in the first place. as, as soon as you try to sell something out of the ordinary, even if you don't know it's rare, competition should up the price?
anyone got any good tales of their bargains?... (or better yet tell me where t go looking for my own!!!)

What sort of "bargain" are you talking about? Low mileage classics you can buy for £3650 and then try to sell for £8k?
If that's the sort of thing you're after, then auctions, owners clubs and specialist magazines (Practical Classics etc) are probably your best bet.
Otherwise, eBay, auto trader, gumtree etc etc. The usuals. Look out for the stuff that's badly advertised, badly photographed etc etc.
But if you're after money-making opportunities like the 6er, you'll need to be prepared to do a lot of trawling and be quick to pounce on the once-in-a-while bargain.

The internet has ruined it....If you had a very indepth knowledge of a particular subject/item and its value you could use it to your advantage and make money....now you can value just about anything on the net instantly....you dont need to learn.
However, for selling the unusual the internet gives you a worldwide marketplace.

The best deals I've seen have been cars parked outside of people's houses with a piece of paper in the window. I nearly bought a 1997 Escort GTi that was sat outside someones house for sale. 1 owner from new, 65,000 miles, good service history and no rust for £800.
And how is £800 for a 14 year old Escort a good deal?
There's a bit of a recession on at the moment. Scrap is the lowest it's been for years. Car insurance is the highest it's been ever. People can't afford new cars so due to suply and demand old cars prices go up.
Having said that I have recently paid £50 for my Escort van and £150 for a Cinquecento Sporting.

Was looking for a G1 Honda Insight (the 2 seat aluminium bodied one) earlier this year. A couple came up at around £4-5k with some fairly high milage on, when I stumbled across one at £1500.
It's paint was a little dull, interior grubby, had an SRS light on (my last one did the same, was an east, free fix) & the gearbox needed a new input bearing, was up at £1500, bargain I thougt.
So imagine how happy I was when he took £1000 for it.
