I'm at the very earliest stage of looking for a Mk1 MX5. Will be used as a weekend / track car, and will probably get lightly modded over time. Nothing seems to compare for the money, but will do some decent research over the coming months before making any purchase..

There's obviously a lot to read on the internet, but are there any good book recommendations?? Amazon show that there is a new one coming out in mid September, worth the wait?

You need this if you plan to do anything yourself (1.8 has a book too):

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mazda-MX5-1-6-Workshop-Man...

This is a good back-up with big colour pictures on all the main DIY servicing things, but not much else:

This to learn about the development and appreciate the care and attention that went on the design:

This is a decent read with lots of pictures, although it is pretty dry and mostly turns into a huge list of special edition specs and summary of the model years in all the different countries:

There are others but I haven't seen them to comment.

This one will soon have you emptying your bank account on mods:

This one is also very clear.
