I've just had a four-wheel alingment check done at my local tyre place. Toe-in is ok but the camber is out. It was outside their comfort zone so before I check out alignmycar.com and find a place with Hunter kit, is the camber adjustable on a 53 plate Forester?

Only the front cambers can be adjusted via a camber bolt on the strut. The rears are fixed.

I think you can get camber bolts for the rear (I am sure I did on my STi when I had my prodrive setup done). I could be talking bks though wink

You can put camber bolts on the rear, the same ones that go through the front, but there have been a few cases where the bolts have snapped because they have been found to be not quite as strong as the standard normal bolt. I'm not sure if you can get stronger rear camber bolts.

If you want the rear end to be adjustable you should do a proper job and spend your money on adjustable rear trailing arms and lateral links set. That way you can set the rear end up any way you like. Not cheap but IMHO much better than a camber bolt.

If you car is mostly driven on the road and you do a track day once in a blue moon i would leave the rear end as it is. They run a fair bit of camber on the back anyway. You can see evidence of this if you do a lot of motorway driving by the amount of wear you get on the insides of the rear tyres, hence why the back end is so well planted around corners.

Personally i would be concentrating on the front end where you get a lot of power understeer. Bump steer mod with an ALK and extended ball joints (ready for new dampers and lower springs) should sort that out, and are relatively inexpensive mods.

Get those sorted out first, then add stiffer/thicker rear anti-roll bar and the car's handling is transformed. For everyday B-Road hacking and the odd trackday it's what i'd be doing before messing with uprated dampers and stiffer lowered springs, unless they are fubarred in which case i'd be looking at Bilstein Dampers and Eibach Springs just to retain some complaincy as UK roads are so bad. Jobs a goodun!!

I had camber bolts fitted to the rear of my early Forester (SF5) when I had the later Forester STI (SG) suspension fitted all around.

However, our 2005 UK Spec Forester with the same spec STI struts did not need any rear adjustment.

Both alignments were done at Elite in Essex.
