Jag wheel guru required / winter tyres

Evening folks, need some advice regarding wheel sizes for an S-Type. In a nutshell, I want to buy a set of cheap alloys off fleabay and get some winter tyres fitted to them, ready to go on in a few months time.
Now, the OH's car is an 07 plate V8 Sport, with the 18" Triton alloys and fairly hefty front discs (not sure on size). Question being; will the 16" wheels fit over the discs, and if so, what size tyres go with that wheel, I'm led to believe it's 225/55/16?
