So how much is a GT3 RS 4.0 worth second hand
Discussion
I posted this in the wrong place so am reposting it here.
The GT3 RS 4.0 is a car that sits high on my wish list so I decided to do a quick search and found this. Now I know rare new cars will always command a premium when nearly new but this has to take the biscuit. Let’s not forget that the retail on these was £128k, let’s say £140k with essential options. Now check this out:

Could someone please justify to me how this car is worth this kind of money? You are looking at over £100k over list including VAT
I know the dealer posts on this site so it would be great to hear from him on how he justifies this asking price.
My fear is that if cars like this sell for these kind of prices they will become nothing more that museum exhibits as people would be afraid of driving them

But it’s not £200k is it, its £237,480 including VAT. That’s near as damn it a quarter of a million pounds
What I am asking is how does a dealer come up with this price point?
Great car as the 4.0 appears to be, to jump by over £100k on the day it is delivered just seems excessive to me. Only time will tell if the dealer has pulled a blinder or has been wildly optimistic

I know of two available at list that can still be configured. I expect to see more as people's dates come closer and they decide to pass.
It's a strange state of affairs indeed. Speculators thinking they've struck the motherload, enthusiasts locked out, others gotten lucky, some folks sitting waiting to pounce at any price (apparently) and cars still available to order.
Meanwhile the 458 looms large as an absolute game changer leaving some who salivated at the 4.0 wondering now the stampede has settled whether Ferrari money on a Porsche would be better spent on a Ferrari while as a Porsche guy I'm left thinking, 997.2 GT3 and a Cup would give me so much more than a single 4.0 for the same outlay.

The thing is he doesn't have to justify the price to you or anyone. He has something to sell and has priced it at xyz. Just the same as you or anyone don't have to pay that price. He may have it and think "gee I love this car and don't really want to sell it but if it goes for xyz then I'll buy that Mclaren I have my eye on" who knows? He owns it and therefor can put whatever price he wants on it. It may not sell and he may not care. For you its irrelevant really as so much can change between now and when you are likely to buy one 2nd hand. With such limited numbers and very good reports coming in I doubt we will see them changing hands frequently on the 2nd hand market.
I've seen people post the same about the price of a 964RS or 993RS and a few months later its sold. I appreciate that was not when they were new but same principle about supply and demand. Remember somethings only worth what someone is prepared to pay.
Jackg (and to the several others who have emailed)
Apologies but I've no interest in playing matchmaker or leaving breadcrumb trails.
Both these cars were this week however and I know of another that was being more openly advertised 3 weeks ago and which is now sold I believe. All at list, all configurable.
I also have no back story to any. Customers who backed out, allocations that were never filled or which had just been assumed would self fill, the only ones that have or will come up or the tip of an iceberg. All or none may be the case.

I have had dealings with this dealer in the past (Very nice guys by the way both online and face to face) and we have discussed at length about other highly desirable cars that they have had for sale that have sat in there showroom for up to a year and never shifted. I had pointed out that they were artificially trying to hype the market value but they insisted that the price quoted was what the car was worth not surprisingly.
Now as had been said a car is only worth what someone is willing to pay. So I ask the question to my more knowledgeable colleagues on here, does it do a dealer any harm to have a high profile car sitting in their dealership for a great length of time or would it be more profitable to "price to sell" so keeping turnover high?
Also is any damage done to the reputation of a high profile car if it sits at a dealer and never sells?
