Cheap DD with more MPG, same performance, any alternatives??

Hi,

Been considering a different daily run around, but haven't found anything that meets my criteria.

These are:

Car Under £1500

Better than 35 MPG

Equal to or quicker than than 8.2 seconds 0 - 60 MPH.

2001 or newer


These aren't stict guidelines, but I wouldn't want a drop in MPG.

Basically, I currently have a 2001 Vectra SRI 2.2, that cost £1300, gets 33 MPG and does 0 - 60 in 8.2 seconds, and I would like a better return in MPG without a loss in performance...

So what are my options??

rover 200vi / BRM / VVC Coupe.

Cheap to buy / run , will easily average 35mpg, 0-60 - 7 seconds...

your options are gonna be fairly limited around this price point but not impossible.

P.S. - Just seen 2001 criteria, so a 25Gti I guess haha, vastly different to the above options

Pushing it, maybe a very leggy Octavia VRS?

Or staying with Vauxhall, something with a Z20LET in?
