Race-Inspired Gallardo For Frankfurt

Lamborghini to say goodbye to Gallardo with limited-edition hardcore model

The identity of the mystery Lamborghini set to be unveiled in Frankfurt this September appears to have been discovered - it's a last hurrah for the Gallardo.

Lamborghini isn't saying anything officially, but PH's network of spies tell us that the new car will be based on the on the one-make Super Trofeo racing car, and that the new car will be built in strictly limited numbers.

Think of it as the Lamborghini equivalent of the GT3 RS 4.0 - one last hardcore iteration before an all-new model (in this case the Cabrera) appears.

Beyond that we don't exactly know what we're going to see sitting on the Lamborghini stand at Frankfurt, but if it's anything like the racer pictured here, it should be pretty interesting...

I do love a good limited edition rolleyes. So this will be a Superleggera +10BHP and -10Kg. ( Please forgive my cynicism, I hope to be proved wrong!)

Technically, all Lambos are built in 'Limited numbers'....

Their price means you'll never find a field full of un sold Lambos that have been over orderred by saleman hoping to meet end of month bonus figuers....

Your most likely correct chap, I believe the Super Trofeo race car is 4-wheel drive with 560 bhp weighing in at 1,300 kg through the e-gear transmission, I can't see how this special edition will be drastically different to the LP570-4 Superleggera other than a track-focused suspension setup.

It's also worth remembering that the Gallardo has been around since 2003, quite the honed product already?

I'm sure it'll be very nice and all, but you'd shirley have to be a bit mad to buy one given the replacement is just around the corner. The LP 670-4 SV was lovely... but then the Aventador came along and made it look old. Same will happen with this Gallardo.

Well, I hope whoever buys one, it isn't same guy who was driving his Black Gallardo down the M4 the other Monday morning at 63.267mph. That's only an estimate of course, as my Chrysler Cruiser (!) was at ???mph at the time !! Oops officer !!

The number of special or limited edition cars built by manufacturers that specialise in expensive, niche markets is directly proportional to the state of the global economy. The more there are the worse the economic prospects are tongue out

Am I the only one that thinks that if that is all they are showing I'll most likely fall asleep with boredom. Gallardo's are soo boring these days, and the editions are all the same (bar the Balboni). It's a heavy, monolithic, and archaic model that needs to go the way of the dodo.
Lambo need to play catch up with the competition, noone even mentions them next to the MP4-12 and 458 duels. It's quite tragic really! We need a 458 that has doors on the undertray, gears that start at a ratio of -4.5 and makes it's way up to 17, and the engine on the front left wheel again.
Although I wouldn't say no to an Aventador any time soon biggrin, hmmm come to think of it I wouldn't say no to a Gallardo smile.

Tends on how you look at it, I'd rather have an LP 670-4 SV over an Aventador. So maybe it will be the same with this one. Though I doubt it. Never been a fan of the Gallardo (except for the Balboni and LP550-2 editions). Last proper Lambo was the original Murciélago for me.

doesn't really happen for that reason even with other mfrs, usually it is the mfr trying to anticipate demand. Lambo are nearly all built to order to reduce likelihood of fields of cars, not specifically due to production run size.

I would love to see an SV model with the Muci v12 a manual gear box and rear drive only, if its anything else its all been done before, twice in some cases.

If that car was launched in in its original guise today it would still look amazing. Its just right, taut styling, plus a proper shovel nose and the details are still on the money now, 10 cylinder engine, massive brakes, tyres wide enough etc.
