Atlantis Palm Dubai, end of month.
Discussion
Got a cracking deal via Voyage-Prive to go here on the 25th. I know it's going to be very very hot, and it's Ramadan as well. If any one has been, or has advice on Dubai culture in general,I'm all ears.
For starters..
1:My wife is a very nervous flyer, and is concerned that she won't be able to take into Dubai her Diazepam for the flight home etc. although she's going to contact the embassy, some real world experiences would be handy.
2:Does Ramadan apply to the Hotels during daylight hours,i.e would it be considered offensive to be drinking a bottle of water of the like walking through the public areas of the hotel?
3: Anyone been to the Atlantis Palm, we are there 5 days, anything we must not miss?
Any other info/ advice most welcome!

Eating or drinking in public places (ie infront of muslims) including hotels is a big no-no. It's OK to eat in your room and bigger hotel restaurants will be hidden behind curtains so you can eat and drink in those, but eating an icecream walking along the street will get you in trouble. Nearly all restaurants and shops will be shut until they break-fast after 7pm, but stay open late and you won't want to go to the beach as it's 45 here now and the humidity is high!
If you chill all day and just go out in the evenings then you'll be ok.

You should post this in the ME section...
As above really. Don't ram it into the Muslims face, and you'll be fine. Last year I stood next door to a busy Mosque slurping away on a Sluch Puppy type thing. I wasn't being dicrespectful, I just completely forgot. No-one said a word and there were dozens of men going in and out in that time.
Drinking water, snacks etc during the day won't be a problem at the Atlantis They'll be area's where you can eat/drink what you like, with the only invconvenience being that it won't be delivered to your lounger.
The Atlantis is a nice place. The waterpark is excellent (Dolphin swim thing is expensive), and some of the restaurants are top drawer. The bars I have been to are good, although a little expensive, but we don't care about that on PH, do we? However, if I were staying there the amount of bloody day-tripping tourists would get on my t!ts. They bus them in from everywhere just to look around. Having said that they are restricted to certain areas, and not into the heart of the hotel.
If you need tips on what to do/see etc, post in the ME forum..we're growing in number almost daily.
