MY08 ML W164 - beam converter and switching the alarm off

I have read about some modern cars having a switch or some sort of adjustment that allows you to drive in Europe without having to use stick-on headlamp beam converters. Would you know if this is applicable to our ML320CDI please?
Also, when on a ferry, it would be nice to be able to blip-lock the doors but to leave the alarm disabled. While on an overnight ferry last year we could hear a number of cars that were obviously troubled by the movements of the ferry, and were blasting their horns all night. I'm sure it's possible but the manual isn't clear on this.
