Ok not 100% decided on what Ecu im going to use but I need help to make sure ive got every thing written down ready to order

Ecu
Loom with plugs
Air temp sensor
Trigger wheel
Crank pick up sensor
Coil packs (ford?)
Injectors
HT leads
Map sensor needed?
Ecu to computer lead
Wideband sensor and gauge kit
Various bungs for air temp sensor and wideband

Have I missed any thing?

Do you have any recommendations

Thanks

Alex

Ecu
Loom with plugs
Air temp sensor
Trigger wheel
Crank pick up sensor (Plus bracket)
Coil packs (ford?) (I use Ford but any will do, just make sure you match your HT leads to the coil packs as they will use different ends)
Injectors (Can re-use your old ones unless you're upping the power etc)
HT leads (wait until you've installed the kit and then measure up the lengths you need)
Map sensor needed? (Advisable)
Ecu to computer lead (and a USB/Serial link - look at easysync one)
Wideband sensor and gauge kit (Yes, I'd strongly recommend the Dynojet wideband commander)
Various bungs for air temp sensor and wideband (The wideband will come with a boss to weld in, for air temp I used a short piece of pipe to replace the AFM with a small boss in it for the air temp)

Have I missed any thing?

- Worth looking at an EGT sensor

Do you have any recommendations

Thanks

The only sensor i can see is the air temp sensor...what does it do and all the other sensors you have mentioned ..Does the megasquirt use the coolent and fuel temp sensor ..

The air temp sensor measure the air temp believe it or not.....laugh

Coolant temp sensor measures the coolant temp

Crank sensor measures the position of the crank

Im not sure if the mega squirt uses fuel temp

Hi,
as far as the MS and the RV8 goes youll need to add :
Air Temp sensor
Crank sensor (Assuming your going wasted spark)
36-1 wheel (assuming wasted spark)
Wideband Lambda sensor (Assuming you want to tune it yourself) Even if you don't Id still fit one, but its not essential.

You can use you existing:
Coolant sensor
Stepper Idle Valve
Injectors
TPS
Relays

The MS ECU has a built in MAP sensor if you wish to use it.

You can throw away:
Old Lucas AFM
Old Lucas 14CUX
(Or sell them on EBay would be a more viable option)

I understand that but what do they adjust when at different temperatures..so is it useing the fuel temp..

Air temp is used to work out what the density of air will be coming into the car, and therefore what amount of fuel to pair with it. This job is usually done by the air flow meter but just about every after market ECU I can think of uses air temp instead of mass air flow. Not sure why?!

Hi Nick,
I can't think of any modern ECUs (including OEM) that don't use Air temp sensors. Its basically to work out the air density as you say. This is part of the fueling algorithm, so at 21C the air density factor would be 100%. If the air temp is lower then the density will increase therefore increasing fuel. The opposite thing happens as air temp increases,

Decide where to mount your coilpacks and make a bracket.
There are a couple you can buy or find at the scrappy also I think

If you wish to dump the stepper motor, and replace it with an IACV - now would be the time...

The Magasquirt plug and play from V8 Developments doesnt use the fuel temp sensor but utilises the cable with an added extender to monitor the Air temp sensor.

...and might be worth considering where you will attach your ECU (bracket?) - unless you want it loose & balanced on the battery, a la 14CUX...?

I was hoping i could have it above the poor excuse for a glove box, and have some sort of quick release to get to it

Why do you have a pully on the table ?is that the one which fell off ?

Where did you get the bracket and coils packa from and where is it going to fit?

For future reference how do you know when the air temp sensor is faulty ..could you tell with the running of the car !

You might consider:
Some large dia solid pipe to replace the AFM (you can fit the air temp sensor in it)
Replacing the 90deg bend into the plenum with a smooth larger radius one (it's worth about 7bhp).
A 72mm dia throttle mod to the plenum, worth about 10bhp.
(IMHO both the above are about the best bhp/£ mods you will make)
I would replace the unreliable std ICV too, a Ford item would do.
A data lead from your ECU that is stashed under the dash is useful so that you don't have to etxract the ECU to attach your laptop for diagnostics.

Lots of bits around to do these conversions now, but your still stuck with batch injection.

I need someone to come up with a reliable and easy way to fit a cam sensor to the serp engine!
