Afternoon guys/gals.
Went to the doctors on Monday with the complaint of having something in my left eye. The nurse practitioner checked it out along with dying my eye orange to check for marks on the eyeball itself and everything was fine. She did say I had rather dry eyes and she prescribed me some antibiotic eye drops. They started to take the feeling of an anti body in my eye off but last night I could hardly sleep with my eyes feeling, and looking sore so spend the best part of the morning downstairs. I don't seem to be producing many tears, I've tried to make myself cry and at a push I can (it relieves my eyes a bit). She did say try the drops for a week and come back and see my GP if they're not better.
Has anyone ever suffered this, and has it cured itself.? Also anyone here know what the likely cause may be? It came on beginning of last week with what I said, something in my eye feeling. I am 24, new to wearing glasses if that makes any odds.

Yes I suffer with this. It all started after I took a drug called Roacitain for skin. That was two years ago, however when I'm dehydrated after a few too many my eyes get sore. A good day of lots of fluid always sorts it out though. Do you also suffer with dry skin or cracked lips? Could you be dehydrated too?
I suffered from dry eyes for a few weeks after having laser eye surgery. Usually when I'd first open them in the morning the eye lid would feel like it'd scrape the eyeball as I opened the eye, or like it was stuck and pulling off a layer of tissue. It cured itself pretty much, but I cycle a lot and if I have a very heavy day on the bike and don't re-hydrate properly afterward, I'll have dry eyes the next day.
I used Refresh drops for instant relief if they were dry during the day. They're just like water and work great for a while. If I was feeling dry at night and was worried about the morning and wanted preventative measures or thought the Refresh may not do it, I'd use Clinitas Hydrate which comes in a tube and is more like a gel. Messes up your vision for a minute or so after putting it in because it's so thick and goopy, but it sticks around and works for much longer.

Very odd to be given antibiotic drops if you had no infection, but that is often what happens when staff who don't know much about eyes deal with them. Dry eyes are very common, trying to make your eyes cry will not help, as those tears are watery and the tears which coat your eye are a mixture of oil, mucus and water. You need some artificial tear drops. You can buy these from any chemist. I would recommend buying drops with no preservatives in them. Celluvisc is a good brand as is Systane or Optive. I wouldn't bother seeing your GP about it, as they probably won't be equipped to deal with the problem. Your better off seeing your local optician.
