I am after a Libra as my next kit car and I had been looking for the latest I could find (2006-7) just so that everything was as new as possible.
However, I am now having second thoughts after reading in another "Gassing Station" thread that the Libra's quality went downhill after production moved from Sutton Bonnington.
What year did this happen and can anyone offer advice based on actual ownership?

I have had a Libra, and not sure what you mean?? Do you mean factory build quality or parts quality??
Off the top of my head, does not really make a difference as no two are the same and you really need to take each individual car on its own merrits. If you really are interested in a Libra you need to 100% get onto Team GTM or at worst GTM owners club as all you need is on there. I bought mine with none of this knowledge and it cost me a lot of money as I ended up buying a very pretty car with very basic brakes etc. I put it right using the medium of money, but you dont have to!!

The thread referred to the quality of the GRP, as the moulds were apparently not maintained properly after they left Sutton Bonnington. The suggestion was that post 2002 shells are inferior (if that is indeed the date GTM sold the Libra). Hence my request for feedback from owners who can confirm or deny this.

Any GTM GRP after the manufacture moved to Coventry with RDM (note that this was actually a few months after production moved) is not in the same league with regard to surface quality compared with Sutton Bonington cars. So much so that the last few shells were painted due to the amount of work required once they were pulled.

I think I have one of the latest Libra's from Sutton Bonnington. I collected my kit on the 18th of June in 2004. There will have been a few after mine, but by 2005 GTM had moven to RDM. I am not sure at what excact moment they moved. I agree that the best GRP came from Sutton Bonnington, and that it got progressively worse after the move. I have seen one Spyder kit that was extremely poor quality, so bad that I would not dare to get in it for a drive. This kit was supplied early 2007.
Kit age is one thing, if you are looking for a good car than I would also look into milage of the engine at the moment of installation (mine was new, but that does not apply to all Libra's) and total engine milage. Last but not least: some owners kept on upgrading their car with new doorcards, new headlights and (most important) improved suspension. Others did not.
