There isn't a section for this kind of thing on PH, but I figured the watch section would be ok.

I have to sell a diamond ring and so far, every price I've seen has varied massively. I'm also very cautious about taking it to a jeweller as they've asked for me to leave it overnight for a proper evaluation. Not being funny, but I don't exactly trust them where I live.....

It's basically a classic tiffany design with a platinum band and a 0.57 carat solitaire diamond on top. The diamond is E colour and VVS2 clarity. The cut is also "perfect" as put on the certificate I have for it which was graded in Antwerp. The diamond is a stunning cut and looks incredible under light. It really does catch it very well and stands out amongst most other diamonds of that size I have seen before.

The question is should I get the ring cleaned up and looking like new to sell it or should I sell the platinum as one part and the diamond as another? I'm also very cautious of jewellers....especially independent ones where I live since I figure its so easy for them to swap the diamond over with something of lesser value. I've heard stories......

Indeed if it does have a lazer etched number matching the cert then you will be safe, however if it does not then do not give to a jeweller who you have not have faith in. If you are not a trained gemologist or do not have a good chunk of diamond experience you will have difficulty finding the vvs2 flaw in stone, also it is hard to distinguish between DEF colours to the untrained eye and it makes it especially hard when mounted.

If you can tell me the certificate on the stone, then I can tell you what kind of price they should be purchasing it for.
