What is your monthly food bill?
Discussion
Following on from lots of threads and after falling out with the wife again over the cost of shopping, what is your monthly food bill?
In our household it is me, her, toddler and dog. She cooks a proper meal every night and I take a packed lunch to work, we have maybe 2 bottles of cheap wine a week.
We are averaging £550 per month, I just cant work out how (and no we are not fat/greedy/feeding the street etc)

Because you buy good produce? Or have cost heavy meals? A lot of chicken for example? Lunches are also now factored into your weekly shop, rather than the change you have in your pocket. A sandwich and a drink around here is £4+, £80 a month. Tell her to stop buying you lunch and you'll start getting a sarnie from a shop.
You're not getting fat as you eat well and drink a bottle of wine a week. Some do that in a night.
I dread to think what we spend, we live in the town centre, so treat Waitrose like our own fridge. I seem to be there 5+ times a week. For the 2 of us, its probably £300, and we both have lunch from home. (does include some drinks from the supermarket)

If i went to buy my lunch it would cost more than her making it - sandwich, pie, cake and drink easiy £6, 6 days a week = £150 a month ish if i was to buy it everyday!
We do have quite a lot of meat I suppose, we shop at Asda and have started checking it online after - got 24p back this week...
Our food bill is more than our mortgage, its crazy.
I suppose we do eat a lot of fruit as well - daughter loves bluberries which are not cheap!

£150 per week for 7 of us, so about £650 per month, following a new budget regime. It seems to be working and covers food, wine, cleaning products, and a little left over for kids clothes from time to time.
I think it was a lot more up to a few weeks ago and we had worrying levels of waste, but now £150 comes out of the cashpoint and into the safe on Saturday so my wife can see exactly how much is left. Somehow all that stray food that just hangs around at the back of the cupboard or lurks in the freezer is now getting incorporated into meals, which can only be good.

Blimey £550 sounds a lot for just the 3 of you.
Ours is around £600/700 a month but that's 2 adults and 3 children, who seem to eat more than adults, a lot of wine and beer.
I still think it's too much and if one parent was at home full time (Who is nowadays) and budget concious (So not the missus then) the bill could easily be lower.

Varies depending upon how much fresh meat and alcohol we buy - can be anything from £60 to £100 per week. I'd hazard a guess that it averages out at around £75 per week.
We get a mobile fishmonger come round once every few months and get a "variety box" of what they are offering. Better quality than the supermarket and no more expensive.

Please enlighten me, what the hell could you eat for £10 a week.
Tesco value pasta = 19p a 500g bag, buy two and it'll last a week = 38pTesco basics tomato sauce approx 20p (two will last a week for two people)= 40p
2 x packs of ham = £2 (to use with pasta meals and on baguette for lunch)
Baguette = 30p a day (half each of a small one) = £2.10 a week
Lettuce for week = 50p
tomato for week = £1
Brioche loaf + spread for breakfast = £2
Butter - £1
Bottle of cordial to last the week - £1.40
That comes to just under £11, of course you could remov the lettuce, tomato and cordial to make it even cheaper

Breakfast - Brioche slice x 2 with spread
Lunch - Baguette w/ ham,lettuce & tomato
Dinner - Pasta w/ tomato sauce and ham
Very basic, but affordable and filling if we ever found ourselves struggling.

that's not sustainable- its about 1100 calories if you're lucky. Tesco basics tomato sauce approx 20p (two will last a week for two people)= 40p

roughly half what a healthy adult male needs.
at this rate you would be at risk of making yourself quite unhealthy for quite some time.
Including eating out (which is basically all my meals).
£600 pm, for just me.
Feckin ell!!
Usually it's £15 per day just subsistence food.
I eat a lot and I like half decent food (cant stand cardboard food).
Also, due to time constraints i.e. getting home aroun 9ish and not being arsed to to spend the next hour cooking, I eat out.
