Originally the pump was from the SD1 and the rack from the Cortina V6, but later cars (probably applies to yours) had a rack made by Supra, not sure what it was used on but allegedly it was modified by/ for TVR (probably just to accept Cortina/ Granada track rods).

I guess you mean the bottomn of the pinion housing (i.e. below where the column joins the rack)...?
There may well be a gasket behind it but you could probably get away with dropping the plate (catch any fluid that drains), clean the mating faces and use something like blue Hylomar or Instant gasket to make a new seal. Engineers' suppliers (or probably Ebay sellers) will do thin cork sheet if you want to go down the route of a new gasket (you can cut it with scissors)... or it may even have an O-ring behind the cover. You need to get the spanners out... wink

There may well be; it could be as daft as an O-ring or it could be some complicated hydraulic thing, a quad ring etc. You may just have to pull it apart to find out biggrin
I get a tiny weep from the same place on my rack but it's a Cortina V6 unit. Big John my MOT man doesn't seem to have a problem with it... whistle
