what car for 6k
Discussion
Hi I’m looking to replace my current car, a MG ZR 1.4 the reason for a change is its getting on a bit and getting a bit tiresome for my 50 mile commute down the awesome b roads in north wales. I have around 6k to spend on the new purchase, I have driven a diesel Audi and like the torque of the engine but not the narrow power band, so I think that my next car should be petrol and turbo’d and average around the 25-30mpg mark. The cars I have been looking at are S3’s, leon cupra r, focus st.
So are there any obvious candidates that I have missed out or ones to avoid?

i should specify that my 50 mile commute is only 4 days a week and once a month i share a lift so NO DIESEL
plus i want a hatchback so no estates. 4wd would be beneficial because of where i work and the snow in winter hence why im leaning towards an S3
I had a facelift 8L S3 from three years old with 15k miles on the clock to eight years old with 68k miles on the clock. In that time I had to replace the battery, N75 valve (£50), the alternator (from memory £200) and the standard items such as tyres, pads and discs. I had it remapped by AMD in Bicester within two months of having bought it, which significantly improved performance and I'd definitely recommend doing something similar. I know people will say they're too heavy and they lack steering feel, etc. but I have found little so easy to drive quickly on B roads. With the rear seat folded flat, it was also fairly useful for lugging stuff around. I absolutely loved that car and wouldn't have sold it had we not bought a house and had a baby in consecutive months.
