Clutch burning?

My little brothers just phoned me to ask for help his P reg 1.3 fiestas clutch seems to be burning its smoking a lot and the car wont drive will it drive once its cooled down? and whats the likely problem?

Also forgot to add it happened on a dual carrigeway after a journey of about 10 miles.

He's been a tit and held it on the clutch at a junction instead of using the handbrake?

Was he riding the clutch heading down the dual carriage way? It's pretty easy to do if you have big heavy feet like me.

possibly the slave cylinder or clutch friction plates are knackered.
