How about a thread Stupid things PetrolHeads say ...

Here's one of my favourites and I've had something on these same lines from a vendor when considering buying a used Rover turbo on at a least two occasions.

Rover Turbo Vendor said:
.
It must be a Honda engine, it's so reliable and powerful......
.
There was a time when I would always contact and correct someone's erroneous for sale description like that. I gave up some years ago... There were far too many. These included a work colleague's Rover 200 for sale on the firm's notice board describing the very reliable Honda engine. The car was showing 135,000 miles he'd had from new. A friend had asked me to look at the car and on lifting the bonnet, there was a typical Rover 1.4 K-Series...

To be fair, his error was in stating that the engine was reliable. wink

I'm not aware of any common problems with the 1.4 K-series?

Phnaar phnaarr...

Despite your smiley. You may beleive that is fair I did not.... hehe

With R O V E R acrawst the top of the T-Series turbo in large letters, you should have seen his face when I told him if his Rover had a Honda engine, I'm not interested in buying it.... wink

Soichiro Honda's Motor Company of Japan, even when in partnership with Rover Group prior to the BMW takeover, would never allow another manufacturer to put their name on a Honda product. Rover's L-Series in Honda's Diesel Accord never had R O V E R acrawst the top of it either ... Now that's what I call fair. Maybe you don't for whatever reason.

"If its not RWD then I'm not interested"

^^^ I hate the fact that some stand by RWD as if its GOD and any other format is dire.

I'm not going to deny the fact that most RWD is usually a better setup and could possibly usually offer more enjoyment and balance than their FWD rivals. But some people who just write off FWD altogether actually makes me stop listening to what they say.

FWD has came a long way, and many new cars with FWD actually offer quite a lot in terms of balance, fun and setup.

"Buying a new car is a waste of money and should never be done, you can get the car you want a few years older for a fraction of the price."

Although I'm yet to purchase a brand new car ect, if there was something I really wanted and I had the financial ability to purchase it then I dont see any reason I shouldn't buy brand new. I can spec the car to exactly how I like it, and if I'm keeping it a few years I dont really mind the depreciation, and lets not forget so many manufacturers offering free servicing, long warranties ect with their new cars. You can't take money to the grave with you, so you may aswell enjoy it. Although in saying that MOST cars I like are actually older, and not many new cars ever tickle my fancy. But I'm sure one day I'd probably end up buying a brand new car when I can financially afford it.

Ragging it from cold? Taking too many short trips without sufficient warm up and cool down time? Never checking the levels?

My friends HG went on his old R200 twice, but the contributing factor was actually himself. I know for a fact since he used to drive his car to the ATM, which was round the corner (2min walk) from his house, or drive to football which would have been quicker walking. These short trips was probably what killed his car most. Lazy st.

We've had this thread before, although I can't find it with the search function, it had the same "CONTROVERSIAL LOL!" vibe to it.

Come out of your box at once.

You're obviously a shrewed judge of automotive excellence. Was it an SD1 V8 ?...
