Chevy smallblock torque settings
Discussion
All depends on what you are using.
You should be using ARP bolts or studs throughout the build and these will have torque settings considerably different to any other fixing.
You will most likely be using ali heads so again the settings will differ.
All my ARP bolt or stud sets came with detailed instructions which differed depending on what lubricants or sealers you were using.
This is such a difficult area that none of the 4 books (Lingenfelter, Vizard, Haynes) I have on Chevy builds lists any torque settings.
I think I have the ARP sheets but warn that the ARP bolts are in a different class to most others.
Post which settings you are looking for.

Vizard's "How to rebuild your Small-Block Chevy" on HP books does have some torques mentioned in the text, but I don't think it is a comprehensive list. As Steve says, if you're using uprated bolts (ARP) the torque setting will be included with the bolt pack. I did find Vizard's book helpful where standard bolts used.
Thanks for the info Igor, Got the settings I needed.
The car was in bits again, got my new engine back from builders on friday, put it in the car saturday, started it up and had a tapping sound.
Took it to a mates garage yesterday took engine out removed pistons and put them in the right way and then stuck engine back in later that day. All done on a crackin hang over!!! Runs fine now, as for going to lemans in it, sure am. At least we didnt have to rebuild it at the last minute this year (or at the campsite, fingers crossed.)
Cheers
