Dayinsure has been the cheapest for me, but it is going to be that sort of rate, you aren't going to get much cheaper

I don't care if they only cover me against alien invasion... I just want the cheapest possible Insurance.

One car, for an hour, for 30miles.

Best I came up with is £26.82 with 'InsureDaily.co.uk'

Any recommendations?
Insure4aday was the cheapest I could find a couple of months back... that was also around the £25 mark. Not sure you can get much cheaper to be honest - I had some quotes of £100+ for 1 day! This is on a bog standard diesel saloon.

Is the car insured by somebody else? Try to get yourself on their policy for a day and front the cost.

Can't a mate with a policy that allows him to drive third party cars not owned by him help you out?

The car usually has to be fully insured though.

Unless they have a very good policy (quite rare).

RAC - £15/day depending on value of vehicle;

I used them recently and took the option of a day of RAC breakdown cover too....!

Really? A years insurance would come out at £1070, wow! What's the catch.

Don't think there is one, although I doubt you'd be able to keep on doing 7 day terms one after the other. hehe
It's this scheme; http://www.aviva.co.uk/driveaway/

I've always found DayInsure the cheapest and used them on a few occasions

Hmmm, that strikes me as very useful indeed.. But does it work in reality, if, say, you need to move an otherwise uninsured car?

Why not? I used it a couple of weeks ago to HPI a car I was buying and then drive around in it for a week before switching my existing insurance over. I got a 7 day long insurance certificate emailed to me.

Very nice. I'll have to look into it - I sometimes come across a shed-type car that's for sale for much less that it's worth and want to buy it to tidy up and sell on, but insurance for such things is a nightmare, so this offers a pretty cost-effective solution smile
