These massive things snorting out nearly 500BHP make me grunt, sexually.

How much of a COCK to run are they - and I don't mean petrol - nobody CARES about petrol - I mean £999999 services every 45 minutes or brake pads that cost £1500 each.

LOL at Gorvid.

Maybe try the members fleet directory - can't be many on here with one - and then send them a cheeky PM requesting wallet-cripplage info. My guess is that they are wonderful until they go wrong, and yes, the brake discs are a small mortgage if they are the original AMG ones, but you could probably get similar ones from GSF for half the price.

And if the engine goes pop, it'll be a 30k quote from the main dealer to replace it (which you won't, you'll just chuck a Viper V10 engine in).

Buy it. But first perhaps find out why the recovery truck is next to it. hehe

I owned a saloon for about 2 years.

I can only offer the following advice:

Do NOT get one without a full warranty!

My car, as great as it was, was at the dealer for something every couple of months! I dread to think of the cost if I hadn't had the warranty.

General servicing is fine, not excessive, nor are the intervals. But it's the other things that will go wrong here and there that will cost you.

But the engine - wow!

My father has an 2008 E63 estate and other than squeaky brakes that MB replaced, I don't think anything's gone wrong it. He's only done circa 18k in it though.

The later E classes were supposedly far better built than the earlier ones. Especially the 2003-2004 cars, they were supposedly terribly put together - mine certainly confirmed that

interested in what you have to say on this subject.

Assuming the car in question is a 53 plate then it means that it is eight years old. Would the only way to get a warranty be for the car to always have had one or would you have to send the car to Mercedes and they do a 'catch up' on the servicing. This is likely to be about £1,500 maybe and that is only a guess. Or is there another way?

I think as long as the car is under 100k miles and has full MB SH you can get their warranty option, and its supposed to be very comprehensive if you go for the T1 option:

http://www.mercedes-benzwarranty.co.uk/

Not sure how the prices stack up, but someone paid £800 for the T1 on a '55 plate SLK55, which I think is fairly reasonable give what it covers, and the potential costs involved with cars like these.

Am I the only person here disappointed that MB cut-off warranties at 100K miles???

MB were once the one manuf. you could rely on for cars which saw 100K as 'running in only' - clearly that's no-longer the case?

I can't really help the OP, other than highlight that £1500 bills will not be that unusual - you'll probably be PLEASED when you only need to spend 'hundreds' on it.

Lovely car tho - you just need to be able to afford it - the fuel, as you say, is likely to be the least of your worries...

I remember paying ~£700 for the top extended warranty available from Inchcape which was pretty comprehensive for everything bar the stereo system.

I really would love to buy another 55k car again, probably an SL at some point in the future, and send it over to DMS with £5k.

However, knowing what my E55 was like, and info from a friend of a friend who is an MB specialist here in Leicester, it seems the cars of that era are problematic to say the least.

But like I say, getting a warranty sorted on the car would make it a great car!

How would one go about getting a good warranty on a 150,00 mile car like that?!

Ah, you never mentioned that it had 150k miles!

In that case, I personally would stay away!

Warranties are a form of gambling.

...so are Premium Bonds.

I'd suggest that if it's got to 150k it must be pretty reliable !

But ask yourself how much would YOU want to warranty that car ?

Personally I'd want £10k so any warranty worth having will be too expensive to buy.
