Kwik Fit visit today...

Well, came out of the house today to find the Beemers front n/s tyre flat as a pancake. I tried inflating it, only to find air hoofing out of the inner sidewall.
The saving grace is that the tyre was pretty much dead anyway, but annoying as I had planned to do both fronts together. Front tyres are 235/45/R17's, a size that seemed hard to get today, so I ended up having to go to Kwik Fit, as they were the only garage in the area that had a Pzero in stock for that size .
Price was £150, which was a bit steep, but as I need the car tomorrow, had to take it, had I waited till' Monday I could have had one for £108, but such is life.
Now, I was happy with the price, turned up and they got me straight on, and changed the tyre, even used a torque wrench to put the wheel back on which was nice to see. Sadly the guy then spoilt it all by pointing out I need all three other tyres doing.. Front right has 2.0 mil left which I agree needs doing ASAP, but it is legal so not wasting £40 doing it today, both rears have over 5mm on them, which took the piss a little bit...
Don't understand them, give good service then ruin it by trying it on? Sad times, not a name & shame thread at all, just wondering why they feel it is correct to inform people they need to replace perfectly serviceable parts?

I got caught a few weeks ago, had to replace a runflat on a sunday 245/35 18 £285 at kwikfit, would have been probably £50 less at my normal place, but needed it done that day.
All was well, no slaver about other tyres, but when i checked the pressures it had been overinflated by 8psi not the end of the world but its just shoddy.

I had that happen with me when I had to replace a tyre on my old MX-5. Handbook said 29psi they inflated it to 35 psi, made me glad I checked it on the way home.Lordglenmorangie said:
Didn't you try to make them price match the £108 price ?
Wouldn't budge, I suppose they had no need to as I wanted a specific tyre today, that no one else had in stock. As I said, I paid for the convenience, just dissapointed that I had a guy trying to push 3 more onto me, even showing my why my 5mm+ tyres were illegal! There is sales and upselling but then there is blatent lying.
Telling someone with 5mm of tread that there tyre needs replacing is just out and out lying. 3mm then yes, it's on the European limit and the owner should be thinking about it but at 5mm, its probably still got around 50-60% of it's life left.

I don't mind stating that I have had good service in the past. The sister lives a couple of hundred miles away and was down Christmas. I checked her tyres, the fronts were just legal, but I know how bad she is at keeping on top of things so I said i'd sort them for her (shouldn't be that way, I know hence why we check her car when she's down).
Asked "When you heading home" - "Now!".
Popped to Kwick Fit and they said they would do it within the hour. There is a good pub over the road, so we popped in asking for a call when they were done. 15 minutes later a call came telling us it was all done. The price was within a fiver of the cheapest online place. Just the service I needed at the time, and I have no connection or need to sing their praises.

I had this when I went to ATS to get my sister a new tyre for her Micra. One new front was needed but apparently all the others needed changing too because they were 'illegal'.
It was amazing how they were no longer illegal when I got the tyre gague out of the glove box and we had a measure. I'm glad that I went to get the tyres because if my Sister had gone she'd have come back with a completely new set when in reality there was easily another 1000 miles on the remaining ones.
Such is life I guess. If you don't know about things like that then you'll believe what the man tells you.

To be honest, it would be a neglect of duties if they didn't point out that you should have matching pairs of tyres on your car anyway.
Better they tell you than they let you go out on a mis-matched set and then you get done 3 months down the line by plod, or end up in the ditch.
Its one thing to recommend matching tyres on a given axle for safety at the time of replacing one, and quite another to say both tyres on an axle with 5mm tread on each are at the end of their life though Better they tell you than they let you go out on a mis-matched set and then you get done 3 months down the line by plod, or end up in the ditch.
