96 Griff Alarm Problem

I hope someone can help with this problem, the alarm fault started today.
I can set the alarm ok (it goes off if you wave your hand around inside the car), but when I press the button to open the doors and disarm the alarm so I can start the car, the siren goes off and wont stop unless I hit the button again. If I put the keys in the ignition (when alarm ir armed)and press the plipper, I can start the car but after a few seconds the alarm cuts in.
I've tried removing the alarm related fuses (2?), waiting a minute or so then reinstalling the fuses and trying again but no joy.
This is even more annoying as I sold the car to a friend on Saturday, who has used it for 2 days with no problems whatsoever. Then this afternoon it started playing up. The alarm has never played before.
Any advice is most welcome.

Well, as far as the doors are concerned I think they were shut when the problems started, but then again I am posting on behalf of the new owner, so can't be sure. He told me that he parked the car on the drive, hit the plipper to alarm the car and ducked in to make a phone call and when he came out and hit the plipper the alarm went off.
As I see it, we can set the alarm and it will sit alarmed and immobilised (but the central locking has set the doors locks unlocked, not locked) and when the plipper is pressed to open the car and turn off the alarm it sets the alarm off and the doors lock.
The alarm I believe is a Meta, as it is a December 96 car.

Yeah I had this ... sadly I was in a French service station at the time getting abused by people trying to eat their lunch in peace.
Turned out the siren was hosed. As I didn't have access to another I unplugged it (still going off due to battery backup) and hurled it into a lake.

Thanks for that Marco, it must have been pretty annoying for you! TVRs eh?
There is a local alarm guy going out to the car later from what I gather. I've given him the number for Car and Bike Installations as well, so hopefully he will get it sorted quickly. The good news is that he was intending to upgrade the alarm anyway, so this problem has just brought things forward a bit.

Was that in the instructions? What if there is no Lake nearby?!
I can just imagine the frustration. I bet that throw would have been a shot put world record!

Funnily enough that WAS the instruction! I was on the phone to the ever patient Richard Smith at Peninsula and Heath at TVR. Conversation went something like:
"Just cut the siren off but be aware that it will continue going off for a while"
"OK. How long."
"About 6 hours"
"erm OK. How do I stop it"
"Well, up here we just dump them in a bucket of water"
"Ahhh I have an idea!"
Did get some strange looks. People must have thought it was a grenade as it screeched over the fence into the lake.
I've got a top video of it that I'll try to dig out.

Sorry I didn't reply with the result of the alarm problem sooner, but I don't lurk on the Griff forum much now after I sold the car, not that I ever did that much anyway.
The new owner told me that it was the siren unit that was the culprit, he ripped it out and wrapped it in a blanket to drown the noise. Everything is fine now, so all's well that ends well. His Griff is now mobile again, and I'm having a bit of reliable (and less wallet-mugging) fun with an ST170. Doesn't sound the same and it's nowhere near as quick, but I actually enjoy the ST170 quite a lot.
Must have been an omen to definitely sell the car, as a week before I sold it I was pulled by Interplod in an unmarked Vectra for "excessive speed". I actually admitted to doing 130 mph (in a 60) like an idiot, as I thought I was totally screwed (license flittering into the sunset etc.) and a bit of honesty might help the case, but for some reason he let me off with a warning! A mate pointed out that he probably lost sight of me on the long bend and couldn't get a consistent reading on me. Can't think of any other reason why he would let me go, I must admit.
Maybe I'll get the bug again for a fast sports car one day, who knows.
