Need a new one, possibly bag-less, probably cylinder, maybe a Dyson. Currently got a Bosch bag cylinder. What you got, any good?

If you want it, Henry. If she does, Dyson.

Miele.

There really is nothing that's as good at doing what it's meant to do, whilst being robust and reliable.

Not the cheapest vacuum cleaners out there - but you'll get at least a decade of use out of one before you'll even think about replacing it.

Henry's are fine but if you have pets, she has long hair or you have deepish pile carpets then they won't get the hairs out, they are office and workshop cleaners and as such work great on that special no pile office carpet.

You want a beater bar and if you have hard floors and carpet a switch able one. so Mielie or Vax seem to be the standard responses, dyson are ok but they need maintaining to work well.

Perfect response thank you, currently looking at a Vax C90-P2B 2000 watt. I know on Amazon its only £59 but I reckon its ok for a 3 bedroom semi with carpets & wood floors.

Not bagless or cheap but have found the Sebo X4 very good, only 1300W but sucks better than Divine Brown.

We have a Vax and a Dyson and the Vax is almost too good. Fantastic at picking up dust and hair. The filter is located within the dust bucket and is nasty to clean. The dust has to be brushed/banged out and seems to be endless and our house isn't even that dusty!

The Dyson is much nicer to empty and the filter is easier to clean just not quite as effective

We have a 300 air-watt Hoover.

If only there were more things in our house that sucked so well...

Another vote for Henry, and if its dog hairs that is your problem get the turbo head attachment.
And best price seems to be Cleanstore where we got our last and will shortly be buying a second.

It's a little bit like a "what car do I need?" thread. smile If you want a workshop workhorse then a Henry is indestructible whilst being naff at filtering fine stuff out. Dyson's (from about 12 year's experience) self-destruct. Miele, if you have the cash, is the way to go as they get the best ratings for both doing the job and not falling apart.

Another vote for the Henry here. Killed my dyson animal within six months (bad smell and a superb smoke display). Admittedly it had ingested plaster and cement dust on a regular basis during the house renovation, but the henry has stood up to 2 years of it and still hasn't missed a beat.

It's been done to death on PH.

Quick summary - Henry wins every time.

nono

I thought the accepted answer was Miele (Cat & Dog).
