We were travelling down the A90 this morning from Aberdeen to Dundee. One section of the road was packed with roadies who I can only assume were doing time trials. It looked like they went over a flyover and back up north. Must have seen about 20+ of them.

Who on earth designed a route to use the busiest road in the region? It's outright dangerous for everyone involved, especially with some of them weaving all over the road, probably to avoid potholes and being battered by wind when trucks and buses past them. We're blessed with empty country roads which are perfect for lycra cladded cyclists (and those ridiclous helmets). Hopefully this was just a one off. Was anyone here riding this morning, must be very disconcerting for you?

p.s. I'm not anti cyclist at all, in fact I'm a keen moutain biker, but there is the right place and time for hobbies and the A90 isn't it.

You see a lot of this on the M8 (or whatever the last bit is called) into Port Glasgow. Not my idea of fun.

Is that even legal? Didn't think you could cycle on a motorway.

That was on the Aberdeen to Fraserburgh section, fatal sadly.

On the way back up the A90 I did see a red MX5 up a verge and smashed into a sign post. Very odd.

Parts of it are the A8, they could use them. I drove from the Showcase to Eurocentral as a learner and you can go much further than that smile

Yeh they do alot of sprints on it. I think its a boring road to drive never mind cycle! And a lot of it is unlit with no hard shoulder.

As a fanatical cyclist (and petrolhead obviously)I used to compete in many time trials all over Scotland. Those were normally run early on Sunday mornings before traffic gets too busy. In time trialling the riders set off 1 minute apart so there will be no bunches of riders(or even 2 together)on the road. In theory it shouldn't be any different to passing any other 'ordinary' cyclist on the road. There are always signs out warning drivers that there is a race going on so at least you should be aware and alert to this. I'd imagine that they were doing the 100 mile time trial as that uses that stretch of road for a short time(about 20 miles) The A90 wasn't my favourite road though!

The M8 motorway finishes at junction 31 (West Ferry) and from this point all the way to Port Glasgow is the A8, therefore legal for cycles to use.

Surely the same one?
