In having a quick car, done some fettling of my car and contrived an errand to the in-laws, sun on the way down, dry and the car felt as good as a Saab ever does, not going daft, just stringing a few corners together, opening it up when it is safe to do so.

But, how is it you get allocated a dedicated dawdler every time ? a bloody gold, 07 Avensis, he made a big deal to get out in front of me and then proceeded to dawdle at thirty down the country roads, then we get onto the 30 limit roads and he was off, 45 mph, went to overtake as it went back to NSL, clear the other way and he was either wandering all over the road or saw me and deliberately blocked my perfectly legal, safe overtake, after a mile or so of him slowing down to 15 mph for every right turn he turned off, great I think and then out of the pub, 10 or so, slightly tipsy people on bikes emerge, all over the place, laughing and joking, riding two abreast and generally ignoring the car sat behind them, these are not cyclists, these ones were drunks avoiding a ban by cycling to the pub, so a mile or so of that and I was home, aren't other road users a pain in the arse !

I agree with you.

Last time I had a "quick" car, all I ever found was that I just ended up on the brakes more than before. Never had a chance to really give it some and when I did, it was only for a few seconds before I caught up with the person in front.

I find it far more enjoyable to have a "slow" car that you need to push to get some go out of it. Much more rewarding driving experience rather than just having tons of power on tap.

Obtain proper tuition in how to overtake, or find a more fun route.

It is great fun seeing their reaction when you blast past.

The 3er has got a nice little kick down feature (it is an Auto)
You push the throttle all the way down past the regular full throttle position until you feel resistance, then the car shifts down a gear, (and magically gets louder (probably has a bypass valve (although why you would bother with a diesel I don't know)))

I read the OP as the fun route was rather ruined by those using it.

Don't most autos have a "kick down" feature like you describe?

Yep, but its quite funny how the car suddenly gets a lot louder, it really sounds like it has a bypass valve fitted.

I very much agree with you, and up until two weeks ago felt exactly the same - the problem was solved with a hoon in Wales yes Lovely roads, beautiful scenery, very little traffic (if you or whoever designed your route is clever and aims mainly for roads that don't link popular places). Really made me love driving again. Very early morning hoon to Wilton this morning was good, but just not quite the same.

I'm finding Peugeot hatchback drivers are the updated Metro owners... dribbling along at 35mph everywhere, totally brain dead, on 60mph roads, 40mph roads, clear beautiful sunny days too. Utter, utter morons. All of them. No exceptions.

If you want the roads to youself get out after 7pm when the caravans, Micra's, Avensis's etc are safely tucked up where ever they tuck up such things.

I had use of a basic hire car Focus for a week recently when someoe ran out of talent and into the back of my car.

I have to admit that it was fun to drive about in. Certainly more than I expected.
