As I'm moving in to the big world of post-post-graduate work I'll be having some extra money on my hands. That gives me the opportunity to get myself a proper car.

And I want one of the two cars in the title (weeded down from mpg vs cost vs coolness vs performance) but actually haven't driven either...and I don't like the idea of kicking tyres at this point. So, I was wondering if anyone had some REAL experience with the two cars beyond what a test drive can give?

If I went with my heart, I'd have the Z4 Coupe but my head the Boxster S...but the Z4 is around £2k more expensive.

Personally, I'd go for the Z4 because they don't hurt my back like the Porsche does, are less common and have a tin top.

Will be around that, if all goes to plan smile

I will be saving up for at least 6 months to get most of the finance out the way...but there's nothing wrong with talking about it at this stage biggrin

I'm looking at around £11k for the S and £13k for the Z4. When I said most, I was exaggerating biggrin

Under 10k. Probably closer to 7k.

If you go for the Z4 budget for a set of non Bridgestone tyres, they are fking terrible and ruin the car.

Couldnt believe how much difference it made to mine.

Cant help on the dilemna much, I picked the Coupe as I didnt want a convertible and the Caymans were all outside my budget for a decent one.

This one must be the first one where you havent made your incorrect comment about the suspension on the Z4 as well, you know you want to smile

It isn't incorrect godammit hehe

Passengered in a mates one numerous times when I had my Boxster - the Z was poor in comparison, what can I say? Very crashy/jiggly.

Basically get rid of the run-flats? I was going to do that anyway - my parents used to have a Cooper S with them and it was bone-jarring...I can't imagine what an already stiff Z4 would be like!

I do want to drive both but I don't like the idea of just going to drive someone's car to actually figure out of if I even like the model. Feels like I'm wasting someone's time.

With either of those cars if you're fretting about mpg you can't afford the car! Especially the Porsche which has a distinctly "big bills" reputation.

Mazda.

After more research, the Boxster S certainly makes the most sense since the prices for them are still falling. There are really nice examples for £10k or under.

I'll be getting a 2003 Facelift in dark blue with sport wheels, manual, with dark interior. Now just to find it...and, of course, get the money smile

Quoted for humour laugh

It's not accounts you're in is it?

I'd have the Boxster myself.
