Covered about 500 miles in my new 2000 LW and I think I may have been spoilt by quiet and subtle ride of my previous cars (Evo 6 etc)! This car is an absolute animal; it is ferociously quick, hard, noisy and hot! I have to admit that I think it’s going to take a bit of getting used to. My usual trip from South Wales to London normally occurs without a break but tonight I had to stop twice just to relax! Don’t get me wrong, it is brilliant and I love it but I do have a question regarding the handling.

The last time I had a LW (about a year ago) I remember it being slower than the various Jap rockets around the twisties but came into it’s own above 70 on sweeping bends etc but this car seems to be quite nervous and darty at high speeds and it can tramline allot. This can happen under acceleration, breaking or on balanced throttle. There is no play is the steering and the suspension seems fine i.e. it does not dive at all and breaks in a nice straight line so what could be causing this? Could it be the geometry settings? Can anybody point me in the direction of someone in the London area that can set it up / check it for me? Would my specialist be able to do this (Fernies)?

Cheers,

Rob

If you're coming from an Evo background, then you're asking for a lot from the humble cerbie.

But at the right price you can get her to perform really well on the handling side. There are a few indies that can supply nitrons/ohlins with perfect alignment etc., and maybe add some negative camber in for great twisty road handling...

I dont know if Fernies are recommended for this side of tuning... Joospeed is definitely top of the list when it comes to tuning for cerbs as an indie, I dont know who else sits on his level down in london though... mmmm...

Try Austec Racing at Gatwick on 01293 531080. I use the same specialist as you but would not reccomend them for this particular job.

Alternatively, Racing Green in Ash Vale on 01252 544888. Heard a lot praise from friends regarding their alignment setup.

Topcats fitted my Nitrons and did a full geometric setup including weighing each corner for perfect balance etc. (this is beyond my mechanical knowledge if this decription is cr*p)

Superb setup and now drives like a completely different car, and like trooper Topcats do all my servicing..

cheers
Jon

It was about £1200 for my Nitrons fully fitted and adjusted from TC.

From memory, it was that sort of money (and the best value per pound I've spent on my Cerb!)
