Local Tyre places say they can't get them. I expect there is very little demand - is a dealer the only choice, or are there specialist suppliers?

And if a breaker's doesn't appeal, eBay. Just make sure you check the date code on the tyres, a lot of space savers are twice as old as their shelf lives!

Do spacesavers last longer than ordinary tyres, or is 5 years the limit ?

Well the fact that they are kept away from sunlight and damp and have no weight on them, will mean they last longer than tyres which are actually on the vehicle. The fact that they're only rated to quite low speeds will obviously make a blow-out less catastrophic on average if it does happen.

Local dealer would like £56 + fitting ( and a 5 - 6 week wait. )

I now have a slightly used spacesaver wheel and tyre instead, purchased for the princely sum of 99p on ebay smile

Thanks for your help
