Hi all. The dog has finally made enough of a mess of the carpet for me to want to give it a proper good clean. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good carpet cleaner, not a spray I mean a hoover type device or similar.
Thanks

From what I've heard, the retail ones are not that great. Better to just hire a full-fat one.

I hired the Rug Doctor to clean the hall carpet in our new house. It did a cracking job. Was shocked at the colour of the water it pulled out the carpet.

Conversely, I've found Rug Doctor to be rubbish. Get a local expert in to do the job properly, it will only cost a few quid more than hiring a machine.

I use ChemDry. About £120 for a modest lounge-diner and hall but it comes up almost as new.

Thanks all. I think I will give the Rug Doctor a go as it is only £30.

I always used to hire or borrow a Karcher and they are very good.
Thinking about buying one and doing a few carpets on the side as a part time business, its hard work but satisfying when you see the end result
That said I recently borrowed a VaX to do a couple of carpets that had been stained and it worked suprisingly well on a small area. not sure I would want to do a full carpet with it though.

I had my house re-carpeted recently by a friend and he said not to bother the carpet cleaners you can hire and that it was better to get a good professional in to do it.

He also said that the best way to keep your carpet in good shape is to hoover it as often as possible.
