Hi all, having owned a few chims in the past I am looking to rejoin the fold ! However I no longer have the luxury of a double garage and now live in a town house ! Therefor the question whats the minimum practical garage space required to house a chim ?

Thanks

Hey,

Having just bought one only a week ago, this is still relatively fresh. Relatively being the operative word...

From memory, my garage (well, my dad's) is 4500mm long and 2560mm wide. The cars are 4015mm long and 1865mm wide. With racking on one side for cleaning equipment etc, there is JUST enough room to squeeze past but in an ideal world, another 200mm would make all the difference. It's snug but it's ok - it gets very hot in there after a blast though - I have to leave it to cool for an hour or so before putting the cover on.

Remember to carpet the wall to protect the door just in case you accidentally turn the nob the wrong way and hang some string at the far end so when you pull in it moves when you touch it so you know not to go any further!

Ah, but you Surrey folk know more about Champagne than us Hampshire paupers don't you?! Perhaps you could lend me a few? biggrin

Quite happily, I don't use them, I just hang the bottles up so the headlights reflect off them at night wink.

Well surprisingly my Mazda MX-5 was 2cm wider than my Chim and both fit through my single width garage door easily so it shouldn't be a problem.

I don't have any champagne corks or empty bottles. The butler throws them all away.

Its quite suprising whats achievable in a modest size garage

Mike, that's not very environmentaly friendly. My butler gives them to the head gardener who puts them on the compost. biggrin

If you do a search I had a long discussion with Podie and others about whether my S3 would fit in the tiny ex-council garage I rented when I had it (about three years ago). Dimensions were discussed and it turned out he'd kept his Griffith in the very same garage... They are deceptively small cars, so you probably won't have an issue.

Although I've got a weird sort of one and a half car garage in the new house I've still got a single-width door and the Chim is easier to reverse into the space than my Focus is.

The only issue might be opening the door. I'd look at sticking some old carpet or something on the wall next to the driver's door (or simply winding the window down and climbing out over the top) if it looks tight.
