Firstly apologies to spider haters.

Secondly I would have searched for a spider topic, but search is down frown

Anyway yesterday I get a call from the gf to come down to the garage to look at something. I duly meander down only to be confronted by Shelob!

Feck me this mutha was huge, pretty sure it was getting ready to mug me as well, so I quickly got some photos, and shut the garage door. It's gone today, so hopefully it's toddled off to squat in some one elses garage. THe gf will be going in first though if anything needs moving in there!

I just hope this is the female, cos if it's not eek

It wont be gone when you go back.

You just wont be able to see it, but it WILL see you.

Just make sure you always put the light on before you go in, even in the daytime.yikes

Brown Recluse spider? I think they can actually give quite a bite...I'm not afraid of spiders, But i can sympathise with you mate> I'm terrified of wasps, I was doing some work to the Saab (Head gasket failure) and heard this loud buzzing. Turned round to be confronted by what I thought for a second was a daddy long legs thing only for my eyes to adjust to the light outside the garage and realise it was a huge fecking wasp, and I mean huge. My partner confirmed that it was a wood wasp thing after she had killed it for me smile

We have a field next to our house - I can confirm that spider season started very early this year. 2 cats and a dog help to keep visible numbers down wink

Yep spider season early, as are the blackberries. I can only think they must be somehow linked...

Just a giant house spider isn't it?

5 spotted in the house last night, luckily my scared OH only saw one of them and I managed to get that back outside with minimal fuss.

Last week I had birds in the house, I can't help thinking I'm doing the "there was an old woman..." thing in the wrong order.

I have exactly the same kind in the shed. I always keep my eye on the bugger when going in there.

I killed a spider in the garage on the weekend. Big bugger it was.

I'm nervous to leave the roof down on the MX-5, even when it's parked inside, for fear of one of these 8-legged critters making a nest down the back of my seat. eek

Aaaarggh they're holding it!!

The one in my photos is definitely of the giant variety, a "normal" house spider has stubbier legs.

I would feel bad killing it though, even if it does give me the heebeegeebees.

I've never seen such big ones in the UK till I moved into my current house, an old cottage built about 1880 that backs onto fields. We get some almighty bds now!
