British 24hr kart race @ Teesside

A good mate (who happens to be a PHer) entered this a few years ago as someone with quite a bit of karting and racing experience, he disappeared for a week afterwards and refused to speak of it...
According to his mrs at the time he was so knackered and in so much pain by the end of it that he just had to lie in bed for 3 or 4 days! The worrying thing is that he's a Geordie, and thus all but impervious to pain

HAHAHAHA He might have been in my team! The funny thing with that is that Teesside is one of the easier tracks on the body to do a 24hr race as it's mostly straights. Daytona MK is a tough one as it's very bumpy underbraking and very busy. Le Mans is also hard work because the rumble strips are about 2 inches deep so if you run over them on the exit of the corner it kills your hands, ribs etc....

yep il be entering this year, i usually do the 2 hour races at 3 sisters every month....24 hours should be a walk in the park.....its the getting up at 4am on monday to drive down to oulton park because im marshalling at the gold cup that will be the hard bit!!!

well ive got my own kart...7kart mk4, that i race at 3s, but dont want to wreck it in a 24hr race, plus ive only got the 2sp engines, so if one goes down im fooked, so il be in the hire kart race with a couple of pals that ive raced with in TKM and prokarts this year....should be fun, just want to make it to the end!!!ascarracinguk said:

I'm entering in the Owner class for the first time this year (with Drakart) which should be interesting....! How many hours are you going to be doing each?
if we finish the race 6! 4 drivers, i usually do about 2 hours at 3 sisters each month which i can do easily....its a lot less toll on the body than 2 stroke racing so the body is used to the torture, its jsut the mental aspect of such long races that take the toll more....really looking forward to it though!!...just hope the rain stays away!!!...havnt raced in the wet in ages!ascarracinguk said:

You'll be fine! Some people sleep and others don't as it's hard to get some shut eye when the adrenaline is still pumping and the karts are racing by. I think I managed 20 mins sleep from 7am Saturday morning through to 2:30pm Sunday afternoon at Teesside last time because we ended up doing it in a team of 3 after one driver dropped out on the day, One had a fractured wrist so had limited time out on track and another broke his ribs on the armco about 6 hours in (he wasn't even in the kart at the time...lol) so I ended up doing just over 11 and a half hours :s I couldn't open my hands fully for a week after.....!You should enter the Daytona 24hr on October. Recently he broke his fist on a chav's face rather than vice versa, so perhaps he's going a bit soft!

haha if your looking after the race drives inc guys you may know johnny elliot and mike scott then....both do a lot at daytona mancs...theyre my team mates this year, johnny does the 3 sisters enduros with me...rather i do them with him....a bit quicker than me..darn it!You should enter the Daytona 24hr on October. I don't know them personally but I do know of them through RDI. From what I understand, Johnny is rapid around Daytona Manchester. You guys up on the Friday? If so we'll have to meet up for a beer on Friday night. Our team will be staying at the Thistle hotel.StuartMcKay said:

yeh we will be there, and yeh johnny is blummin quick....barstard haha, so is mike, im not bad, can stay within a couple of tenths of them around 3 sisters....id imagine the 24hr is about consistancy rather than outright pace though....well thats my theory and im sticking to it....throw them in first and il do the anchor leg!ascarracinguk said:

cool il come and say hi!....dont get me wrong were just doing it for fum so we will all hopefully do 6 hours in the kart, but put the more competative drivers in first where making time is important especially with close racing/overtaking, then put the other drivers in when the race has calmed down a bit....works well for us at 3 sisters.....StuartMcKay said:

Interesting you say that , when club100 were there a few months back a lot of guys were suffering with sore and blistered palms , also arms aching due to the longish fast corners.ascarracinguk said:
