Every few months somone comes on a forum with the wind up thier dam arse about free road tax petitions, for fook sake it's cheaper than renting a bloody garage, 55p a day! i'll smoke 2 less fags a day and that'll pay for the road fund or as i don't smoke i'll not buy fooking winter tyres and put the cash saved towards it smile
watch out nuns and fluffy creatures from DEC to FEB i'm gonna get you, get you good lick

Do classic cars not use the roads now?

If it was a petition to load VED onto fuel duty, so you're charged via how much you drive then I'd sign it, but I'm not going to bother, like it's been said, could have 30 million signitures on it, and the government still wouldn't listen to them.

Theres already plenty of tax on fuel duty we dont need any petitions offering to add anymore to that thank you very much. That said the costs of the bureaucracy, administration, policing and implimenting the VED system probably takes up most of what they make from charging us for it.

They're not going to change the classic car rule, they might alter the year in the next few years and change it to pre-1980 or something but thats the best you can hope for. I think eventually the Government realised that cars were getting more reliable with the potential of lasting longer, 70s cars were quickly killed off by rust within 10 years but i'd bank on a car made in the late 90s to still be working at 25 years old, or be more likely to than a 70s car anyway. And the Government shat themselves and went 'we could end up with half the cars on the road not paying tax!' so solved that by giving a fixed date. And then put themselves back in that position by giving us a tax-free VED band and offering people 5k back for buying an EV and scrapping 200k used cars and persuading people into lower VED-banded newer cars. Genius!!!
