Hi all,

I've just returned from a trip up North with the Mrs, the dog and the 2005 Seat Leon Cupra TDi! I decided that as we were visiting her relatives, there was no need to rush from one to the next so we took our time and turned the trip into an economy run!

I filled the car at a local petrol station near my house in Petersfield (Nr Portsmouth/Guildford) and drove to Leicester. The next day we went to Huddersfield, then on to Grange Over Sands, Kirby Longsdale and back home with a bit of town driving at each location.

I was amazed when I got back that the fuel light came on at 705 miles!!! On one tank!! I know it was mostly motorways and we weren't rushing but I thought that was pretty good. It averaged 61.1 mpg over the 705 miles which was mostly motorways but did include some town driving and some A & B roads (circa 150 miles) - has anyone done better?

My clio diesel used to get 80mpg on a run. I think it was a thousand odd miles to a tank.

Quite a shock to the system when this new car I got does 23.

Last week I did 751 miles in my 320cd (E46) and it still had a gallon or so left. Still, that was only 55mpg and this week I'm struggling to get 50mpg. More than anything, it's just really boring to drive that way :P

I hope my next diesel does better (E92 I suspect).

Prehaps time for a change of name to PootlingRich biggrin

I can get 55mpg from my Octavia VRS commuting 75 miles, of which about 55 miles is motorway/dual carriageway cruising at about an indicated 75. Not tried it on a longer journey yet though. the bit I'm more impressed at is how rarely I manage to get it below 40mpg on a tank even if I've been hoofing it.

I have done the exact opposite to this by seeing how low I can get the MPG on by VW Bora 1.9 PD 130. I was hoofing it everywhere, foot flat in every gear (within the legal limits of course officer) and I could only get it to 39.6MPG over a 120 mile run! hehe

The best I've recorded is 66MPG over an 80 mile run.

Personal best in the last few years in my own cars.

35mpg - E46 M3 for about 200 miles - driving to the Nurburgring, where I was getting about 11mpg thumbup

mpg really does not bother me as I travel by train every day. Will not be trying to get good mpg again anytime soon sleep

Ah, so actually 61mpg wasn't so great. Well, I won't lie - an attempt to beat it will not be happenning anytime soon, it was SOOO dull!

I managed to get 35 on a 150 mile run in my old car, a CLK 430 - that was seriously slow going, it took 3.5 hours to get home! (usually takes around 2-2.5 hours on a good run!)

PootlingRich died on the way back last Sunday, don't worry, FastRich is back! biggrin

I was given a 2010 Renault Clio 1.5 DCI for trip up to St Andrews (not for the golf). The car was fully loaded (5 large lads and luggage for 3 days) and I achieved 60mpg on the way back. That is the best I have ever got in a car, but then I haven't really owned any eco friendly cars before.

The car was great, really quiet and it didn't feel like it was struggling with me and 4 mates on board. I thought it was really comfortable, as did my friend who called shotgun for 500+ miles up north. However, the guys in the back weren't so comfortable. Oh and the car was a 3 door laugh
