Hi,

I've finally decided to get a tattoo, so not wanting to start a debate about whether they are nice/stupid etc, can anybody recommend a tattoo shop in the Leeds, Harrogate, Knaresborough area?

Cheers

Not in General Gassing we can't.

Now if you wanted to know which car you should get a tattoo off...

More info, please.

What style of tattoo do you want?

In my opinion, the best tattooists aren't Jack of all trades but skilled experts in their own niche areas (e.g. portrait, text, Japanese, old school) etc.

I couldn't decide whether to put in Yorkshire or GG.

Something simple, I'm looking for an Mdot logo morphing/blending into a Union flag to celebrate finishing the UK Ironman triathlon a couple of weeks ago

I've heard good things about this shop - www.blackcrowntattoo.co.uk/

Edit - website not working. That's not a good sign.

Sorry I can't help you mate.

The best tattooist I know who does all my work is in Leeds but I can safely say it's not the kind of work he would undertake. He mainly does traditional Japanese tattoos like koi, dragons, geishas, mythical creatures etc.

Try some tattoo forums.

I would strongly recommend Black Crown. Dave, the proprietor, is an old friend and the guys working there are all excellent. I especially like Fil's work, though he made himself deeply unpopular with me by inflicting enormous pain on my ribs for several hours. I also love Diego's work but I don't currently have a contact for him as the last I heard he was working out of a house in Hyde Park. Good luck and if you need a contact for Black Crown drop me a PM and I'll put you in touch.

The best tattoo artist I know by far is Steve at Think Ink in Shipley

He is always booked up heavily (a great sign of a good artist)

Stay away from anyone who you can just walk into and get one done there and then. The reason they are not busy is that no-one wants to go there ;-)

I got mine at RED in Leeds and will probably be going back there for another at some point.

as I had no prior experience I couldn't say whether he was good or not but he did my other halfs too on the same day and both look excellent.

and it doesn't hurt

A friend works at Red and he's coming on nicely. I will get some work done by him soon enough. What are the artists like at Ultimate Skin at the moment? I lose track with the turnover there! Traditionally been an excellent studio though and I've spent quite a few hours of grief in the place.

Oh and I can say with some conviction that they do hurt!

I would be very interested in seeing this. My aim is do UK Ironman next year and this is the sort of tatoo I was thinking about myself... (don't worry, I'm no copycat, just interested to see your interpretation!)

I think that's very good advice.
I had a look on forums and Black Crown kept cropping up with good reviews so I'm off into Leeds tomorrow to have a look.

TallTony - get your name down for the IM quick before you change your mind and get training, it's a fantastic day out.

Let us know how you get along. Dave's a good mate so I'm keen to see the shop doing well.

Diego did a small piece for my GF. She's got a mobile number for him if you need it.

Almost immediately after typing that a friend put a photo on Facebook of a piece she'd had done by Diego that very day. Small world, etc.

I've got a session booked for October - my first since June last year. Very excited now after so long off.

We went to Black Crown on Friday hoping to sort something out for next week, but between their and my availability (and the fact I can't go swimming for two weeks afterwards) the first available date was for 4th November!

So now I have the appointment I have to confirm what I want and was thinking something like

That's not too bad a waiting list. Few places around here, Holy Mountain for instance as one, has stopped taking bookings until December, for new year

I guess that's a good sign, but it surprised me how long it was
