Lucas SNB802

On saturday I fitted a new SNB802 to my Chim 450. The car was running OK with the old one, but I thought for £11.00 plus VAT and 2 minutes work, I'll fit a new one and see if I could notice a difference. We went for a blat to Blackpool on Sunday and at first there was no noticable difference in performance. Then I noticed that the fuel gauge wasn't dropping as quickly as normal and the temperature gauge never went above 90 degrees. The car normally runs at about 93 degrees. I reckon that the fuel consumption had decreased by about 10 to 15%.

I guess it must have over fuelling with the old unit. Well worth changing!

Hi, I fitted a Lucas SNB717 and an uprated radiator a couple of months ago. I too have noticed a big difference to the fuel consumption (it's much better an extra 50-60 miles per tank!) The engine runs cooler at about 85'c (according to TVR temp gauge) it was running 110'c last year and idled very poorly, Chimaera seems much happier and smoother now when stuck in traffic, so we are both well pleased - less stess on the TVR and me - so no more worries about the engine overheating.

Since I last filled up with optimax, the Chim has done 182 miles and it is only just reading quarter full on the gauge. Am I driving too slowly?

I think so, however I cannot be 100% sure. Maybe somebody else could confirm.

Can anybody advise where this part is located. Also do I need the extra '85' for a 4.3 pre-serp engine? - or will the lower SNB802 do?

Fitted SNB802 onto my pre-serb 4.3 no problems. Idles much more smoothly now.

I think people are getting confused between the temperature sensor for the ECU and the otter switch that controls the fans. Not the same. Totally different. Not even connected.
Otter switch in swirl pot. Temp sensor top of engine. Bible has details of both units and how to change them.
