E46 cd multi changer

My cd changer on the 'business' system wS on the blink for ages. Now just says 'no cd' and will not play. I imaging BMW or even an Indy will charge a lot to repair. Any idea? I don't want an aftermarket head unit. Would it be easier and cheaper to buy a 2nd hand multi changer and fit that? Could I fit it, somebody who has no car electric experience?!?!?

Try ebay, approx cost £100 takes about 5 minutes to switch over.

Are there CDs in it at present?

Mine did this when one jammed. I just stripped it down (simple job) removed the CD and put it back together and it now works fine again.

Is the cd tray opening at all. Happened with us and one of the trays was stuck still in the mechanism. The trays load to the right, I just held down the eject button for ten seconds (which does some sort of reset), the cd tray was still stuck, but if you look down the right hand side you should see which tray is stuck. Get a knife and just apply pressure under the cd tray and it should pop back out. Had no issues since.

I have a cd changer for sale if you want from a 52 plate, changed my head unit a while back for a double-din. £100 posted if you want.
