hello all, first post in the beemer section, going to look at an E39 2000 BMW 5 SERIES 528i SE 5dr Touring on saturday, any problems or isues to look out for?
it listed at £2,700 with 77k on the clocks (sounds iffy i know but seller assures me its kosher)

seems like a nice motor if its genuine, dont do huge mileage so not to fussed about the big petrol engine and diesels are more expensive to buy anyway.

cheers

They're pretty decent car all-round to be fair.

Asides from the standard items to look out for on any car, these kill control arm bushes and brakes quite quickly. Oil leaks can be common and the cooling systems aren't the most robust.

Rust can be problematic - particularly on the sills and the boot. If the car has sideskirts fitted, be sure to check behind them. I'm seen surprising amounts of rot on later cars.

You're looking about £80-90 for a pump and stat from GSF. These will be OE parts, too. It will be worth changing the belts as well as the bolts as these get fatigued with the constant heating/cooling cycle so don;t liek being re-used - especially for what they cost.

Replace the cooling system if it hasn't been replaced already. They all break and it doesn't take long to cook the engine. £400 all in, make sure the radiator is a Nissens or OEM (can't remember the make) Suspension is likely on it's way out. My 528 has cost me £2000 in 3 years excluding servicing.
