Hi, search thingy not working so sorry if this has been asked before.

Just had the time to change your pads warning so I guess I have a month or so to sort it out, although I'd prefer to get it done sooner if possible. My question is whether it's best to use original MB parts, Brembo equivalents or something else. Also, I guess the sensors are incorporated into the pads and if so do the non MB parts have the sensors too?

Any help appreciated. Thanks. Andy

I don't want to be negative, but brakes are a security related item and can be a source of potential danger if you are not sure what you are doing. That said, I would recommend OE products or at least 1st grade quality stuff from a recommendable source. Beware of internet stuff not unless you are 100% sure of the origin. Your life or that of others may one day depend on it.

Thanks for the comment. I'm not looking to save money here, I'm looking to make sure I have the best available / most suitable pads and it's often that OEM parts are not the best.

The MB pads are not too dear, but if you're going for non-MB use the likes of Textar or Pagid who are OE suppliers to MB.

They won't come with sensors - they're about £1.50 each - there's one on each front and one on the rear on my SL, I suspect your car will be the same.

It can often be owrth getting a fitting kit too - these come with new bolts, retaining pins and stuff. I tend to replace these every other pad change. About a tenner.

Don't forget if your car has SBC brakes then it will need to be disabled before you replace the
pads as it runs about 160 bar pressure so will have your fingers off if your not careful !

No it does not... it you activate the system by opening a door the pistons do move but as soon as they feel resistance they stop... I know as I tried this to see what happens.. its an internet myth! oh and Merc tell you that so they can charge you a fortune to change pads!
Do get the fitting kit though as Merc do not lubricate the retaining pins etc as its not in the service spec to do that!
