Ive got a Primera p12 estate. Lovely car in and out but i cant help but feel bored to death when driving it.

I need an estate as i have a young daughter and 2 dogs so cant really downsize much. I use the car mostly commuting on the motorway daily but it does get to stretch its legs sometimes at the weekend.

when i drive it, it makes me want to cry with boredom. not the power, or lack of, just something else i cant put my finger on! i recently did my commute in my partners 206 and found the drive far more enjoyable!

so what estate thats reasonable on insurance, roomy, fairly modern and be had for under 2.5k? Also mustnt be mind numbingly boring to drive!

Cheers but both high insurance and bad fuel economy. the prim gets 40mpg all day.

I think you may struggle to get fun to drive and 40mpg in the same car for £2.5k. Would have to be a modern big diesel for that.

early Mazda 6 2.0 diesel....I've got one and its a great drive, engine feels bulletproof and with 136bhp it isn't a slouch....only real problems are rear arch rust, but easily sorted either DIY or at a bodyshop.

Unfortunately as soon as you start to stretch the legs on any large estate economy starts to reduce but on a run you should be fine.

Get yourself a Saab 9-5 Aero estate, They can carry huge mileages effortlessly, Offer the best seats in the industry,Give plenty of room in the back for the dogs (our 2 pointers rattle around in one)and have 250bhp readily available for fun times.

And they are alot smaller than the Primera.

There are not many large-ish estates that meet your criteria.

I would have suggetsed a 5 series but for £2.5k it will be 02 or older and a petrol so 40mpg will not be possible.

Mondeo is another possible but I can't see it being massivly more involving than the Nissan, the 2.0l petrol I had certainly wasn't involving, I preferred my V70.

Legacy will be too juicey, Impreza too small ditto Alfa 156.

I will keep on thinking and get back.

Yes its old and won't do 40mpg but it will go forever, the seats are superb and it does feel special IMO.

Jaguar X-Type Estate 2.0D - returns 45 mpg and it quite stylish for an estate.

Is mpg an issue? How many miles are you doing?

Maybe something like a Range Rover Classic, Jeep Cherokee or the like? Slap some mud tyres on and you'll feel like you are driving a Tonka toy. biggrin
