Pulled an internal muscle?
Discussion
This is odd. I seem to have pulled an internal muscle - somewhere in my upper torso. Dull ache and then a real short and sharp twinge if I move in certain ways. Seems to go from just inside my rib cage to my back (roughly at the bottom of my shoulder blades).
Woke up this morning and it was very bad, like the whole of my chest was twinging. Presumably because I'd been laying in a certain position for so long? 2hrs later and it's not intense but still there.
Only relevant thing in my history is hiatus hernia diagnosed a few years ago (omeprazole to tackle the GORD).
Wait it out? Bother the Dr, ASAP?

Thanks, Pete. No, there was no 'hit.' Just got a big twinge in the centre of my chest when exerting myself (exercise) on Sunday evening.
Decided not to pester the GP, so I used the NHS Direct questionnaire thing. A nurse there called me back, and we went through the symptoms (which seem mostly related to discounting the chances it's a heart attack!). Said to take painkillers for a day or so to control the twinges, and go to the GP if it persists or gets worse.
At the moment, I have a constant and dull ache around the inside of my back. Which i can live with if it's going to fade away. Am taking it very carefully as I move because the bigger twinges aren't much fun.

Thanks for the extra input, chaps.
The NHS Direct nurse that called me back (because my symptoms ticked enough of the on-screen's possible heart attack boxes) went through the extra Qs on other symptoms. And she seemed to think it's unlikely. She suggested painkillers, which I am not bothering with (I try not to use drugs if at all possible).
This morning, there was still a biggish twinge when I got up from the bed, but not as bad as the previous day. Main symptom through the day is an ache between the shoulder blades that occasionally twinges closer to the front of my ribs with some movements.
I don't know what 'core' muscles are, and how they can be pulled but will Google for more info. Maybe I have somehow pulled or overstretched some?
Will see if tomorrow morning is a continuation of the easing of the pain. If not, will pester the GP.

Never assume you are pestering the GP, better safe than sorry comes to mind. Do not rely on NHS direct, it's only slightly better than trying to get an indian call centre to do somethng for you, they are f
kwits that read off cue cards/screens. See you GP now.Had similar recently- pulled a muscle doing weighted pullups without warming up & down properly (Yet another powerfully built pher
)
Pain was at bottom of shoulder blades & horrendous in the morning, had difficlty turning head to the side or head down/back . Initially stopped training & waited a week till felt better but as soon as tried again returned so hadn't healed properly.
I let it rest a full month with upper back massages twice a day from oh for first 2 weeks, and its completely fine now.
I did some reading up and aside form warmimg up/down comprehensively also do rotator cuff excercises as that muscle doesn't get used much in everyday life so weaker than the rest.

(Later that day...)
GP listened, poked, prodded and tested - and is also sure it's not heart-related. Happy with all relevant vital signs. And she suspects it is some muscle damage, with a remote chance that it's related to the hiatus hernia.
So it's Ibuprofen for a while (for the anti-inflam).
Thanks all.
