Hi

Has anyone any suggestions ,my 2001 CLK320 has just started to have a couple of issues when engine first starts.
It always starts on the button but until it gets warm it intermittently has problems revving.
It wont rev past 2000-2500 and lacks power.

All seems OK after a few minutes.

Sounds like a mixture problem to me , could it be the AFM, or another sensor somewhere.
Its my wife's car and she thinks it started after I disconnected the battery a couple of months ago but that could be a red herring.

Thanks

Sounds like a classic air mass fault to me.

ye sounds like an air mass to me you can genrally tell just by revving it to limiter when stationary alot of the time they wont reach it other times they will just pop and fart

I Have changed the AFM but there is still a problem very intermittently.

The typical symptoms are usually a short time after starting and the car has to slow at a junction etc,
when the throttle is depressed to continue the engine will not rev and pick up.

It has stalled on the odd occasion but after a few seconds it will pick up and then all is well probably for a few days.

I was thinking possibly a temp sensor somewhere that may affect mixture.

Anyone any ideas before I book it in

will prob need boot strapping (ecu learned values erased) most of the time you can get away with fitting an air mass but not always if its been run a while with the faulty unit

i assume you bought a genuine merc air mass and not an ebay specal as these are a waste of time even the aftermarket bosch ones normally arnt 100%

Just an update
The problem is now solved. I had to in the end take it to a local Indy who has the full diagnostic tools.
It showed 2 errors . One as suspected was the AFM. Which was changed. But there still showed another error which was the Throttle position sensor. This was changed and all is well again,.

Probably running better than it has done for a while.

Apart from the outrageous cost of parts it was very reasonable for Diag test and labour.

£128 plus vat for the Throttle sensor which is not much more than a rheostat.
