We would like to upgrade our non-HD Sky+ box to one of the new HD 1TB boxes.
We don't want the HD package though...BBC1 HD is enough for us - we really want the box just for the improved menu layout.

Obviously we would rather not pay since we are already lining Sky's pockets enough already - what deal are they likely to offer and are there any tricks to getting it free.

We have just got a 1TB box as a free upgrade from our old HD , we are out of contract and didnt have to enter into a new one either !

Good luck getting anything without a whole lot of hassle though .

Basically, we applied on one of their recent upgrade offers for a new 500gb box and 12 month contract.

They were so bad , even tried to install it to a house we lived at over 4 years ago, in the end they offered us the 1tb box for free , but first we had to pay £49 and then have it refunded !

Then a week later they switched off our HD channels and reduced the bill by the £10 a month.

Wifey phones to complain , profuse apology and they reinstate HD channels at £2 a month by way of an apology.

We now have a great deal with them , but the hassle , well you couldnt invent it , they take hassle to a whole new level

I've just left Sky, the reason being I could not justify the cost for the amount of TV I watch, so cancelled the TV service altogether... telling them I simply don't watch it.

2 days later I get a call offering me sky+ HD on some kind of deal, to which I replied 'I don't watch TV', then a further two days in...' we can give you Sky+ HD for half price for 6 months!

What part of I don't watch TV do they not understand?

Anyway, that might be worth a go... they are pretty interested the second you cancel the package!

Just done this myself as our box is on the blink. Refused to pay £259 for the box and £60 for set up though so threatened to cancel.

Eventually got free HD box and free HD pack for 12 months. Have to set up the box myself though as refused to pay £60 for installation. Box just arrived in the post and ready to set up.

Was about to start a new thread before I saw this, but does anyone know if I can watch the old box without it being connected to the satellite? Want to watch the remaining bits we've recorded!

Yep - the 'deal' is £49 for the HD 1tb box plus £10 per month for the HD channels.
I will be cancelling!

Not sure whether I got a 1TB box, but I've not paid a penny, and no increase to my subscription. Box arrived yesterday (promised for monday coming) and set it up myself this morning.

Speak to a supervisor and say you will cancel your account, unless you get a replacement box.

I look after a property with 7 Sky+ boxes, under 2 accounts, due to a maximum of 4 card's allowed per account.
I have managed to get 7 Amstrad Sky+ boxes from there free of charge along with a engineer to fit these, as i warned them i would cancel the account.
It wasnt the easiest, however got there after 2 calls.
